That's why you don't blow opportunities. You can't guarantee you'll ever be there again. I think this is the season where everything hits the fan for Guggenheim. The WS hangover, invisible on television, injuries all to their stars, Kershaw's fall from grace, a luxury-tax problem, etc. etc. It's going to be an empty summer at Dodger Stadium.
Yep. And in reality this season is over but, the long term future is still pretty great. Doesn’t make this any less horrible right now though.
No guarantee he comes back strong next season, either. Seager isn't who we thought he was going to be for us. Instead of Cal Ripken 2.0, he's going to be Tulo 2.0, without the sustained success before the injuries hit.
Trying not to point fingers at people far closer to the situation, but he's looked horrible since the end of last year and the team just kept their lips sealed to the media and fans. He missed 2017 regular season and postseason games because of elbow issues. Yet we had no updates all off-season and only vague explanations when he missed spring training. Whatever.
I would want to make absolutely sure that he didn't need this kind of season ending surgery but I get your frustration.
Ok lets not go all doom and gloom 30 games into the season. There is still a TON of time for the ship to get right. You get Turner back at 3b and Forsythe back at 2nd, shift Taylor to SS and move Toles to CF with Kemp and Puig/Verdugo in the OF and the offense should be fine. If you look at these losses a lot of them are mental mistakes at the plate or on the mound. Im not ready to call this one yet.
Lets also remember that this team was in a similar situation last year with a 14-15 record at the end of April 2017.
Zach Britton + Manny Machado solves our problems. Give them some kids. Verdugo and Alvarez and Will Smith. Give them Rich Hill, Logan Forsythe and Puig for salary offset and we actually get more under the tax. Give them Pedro Baez on a roll of the dice.
