while it is nice to see the organization finally recognizing that Clayton is diminished and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt anymore, I'm not really believing that Buehler has a way better chance of preventing runs than Clayton.

Feels like a duh type of decision. Banking on the young power arm to lead the way, and rightfully so.

Kersh had his chance to drive. Nice and comfy in the passenger seat from now on, or even the backseat

The Angels have the "A" logo on both sleeves, the front script, and their hat. 4 of the same logo on the same outfit.

Just go by order of age.
    Clayton, Ryu, Buehler.
Second round you can start Hill in the first game.
    Obviously.

It’s actually kinda 2 in the way that they own the tiebreaker.

I also don’t feel very good about winning this weekend cause we’re gonna have to see lots of innings from bad pitchers like Jaime Schultz since Buehler/Ryu/Hill probably won’t pitch deep and Dodgers will keep it easy with their set up guys

would be nice to lock in a #2 seed over the Yankees though

Yes, they would still need to finish ahead of the Astros. But 1 GB is closer than the day before.

Rooting for the Anals this weekend.

Mostly rooting for good health and a big game from Max, Corey, and JT

Looks like Scherzer is starting the wild card game for the Nats. That’s dumb on their part IMO. He hasn’t looked greaat after his injury and Strasburgs been amazing. Max has an ERA of 4.8 in the 2nd half and Stras ERA is 2.8

Also means that if they win, game 1 is Stras vs. Dodgers which will be tough. Hopefully the wild card winner panics during the game and use multiple starters

i understand wanting to rest stras
but priority 1 should be (first) getting to the next round
but dave martinez is such a bad manager it doesn’t surprise me at all
of course if it works he’ll look like a genius
    but it’s a big risk

In a season where a team wins minimally 103 games, breaks records offensively, etc., odd that no talking heads on TV, websites, blah pick the Dodgers not to win anything, Ryu not to win the CY, Bellinger not to win the MVP.
I'm wondering, why the LAD hate to such a degree...or maybe they just weren't that good. Idk.
Must have been another team I watched all year, every game.

And Stras will knife through LAD, as usual. Hate that matchup for Buehler. May as well sacrifice Ryu or Kersh to the Stras-god.

Some want Garrett Cole this offseason..fuck that guy, unless the Stros' pitching coach is coming with him. If Guggs is actually going to go shopping for another Greinke, they need to target Stras after he opts out. I am scared of where he may land in free agency..potentially Atlanta or NYY..prime cockblocking position

Ryu, while amazing, had a really rough stretch at a really bad time and that pretty much catapulted deGrom into the lead for Cy Young. Ryu has only had two good starts since coming out of it, so it won't be on people's minds like it would have had he kept that insane sub 2 ERA. Also, only going 180ish innings plus having about 100 less strikeouts isn't helping matters either when up against deGrom.

Bellinger hurt himself by turning off god mode a couple months ago. Still, he has been the most valuable player in the NL this year. Just cause he hasn't been amazing the past couple of months at the plate, should not remove the fact that he was a monster for most of the season and has been an elite defender at 3 different positions.

deGrom and Stras lead the field by my estimation

Easy. None of those other guys are asked to do as much. His excellence in defensive versatility allows LAD to manipulate and maneuver personnel wise. Real MVP shit

Metrics say that Kershaw has been incredibly lucky this year to the tune of an almost full run ERA below his FIP. His first innings are unmitigated disasters and his struggles with the long ball are a major issue. They said last year that him starting Game 2 kind of settled him down a bit and may have helped things for him as well. Buehler on the other hand has NOT been lucky as his ERA is higher than his FIP and the team has been brutal defensively behind him. He has been dominant at home this year and showed last year that the dude can handle the big moments. Buehler has had a couple of rough outings down the stretch and very early in the season, but outside of that he has been very very good. Also... something weird that stands out is that one team seems to have his number and that's the Colorado Rockies. They beat him up 3 times this season after he destroyed them the first couple of outings. So basically since July 1, he has only had two teams besides the Rockies that have beaten him up. So 18 starts and only 3 teams have gotten to him. It really does look like the Rockies just figured him out this year and that can happen. I'll take Buehler game 1 as well since he is potentially the better bet for short rest at this time and gives Ryu game 5 on regular rest.

I feel like a Kershaw blow-up is still 7 innings and 3-4 runs allowed. Annoying and depressing, but not insurmountable. I feel like we can count on that at the minimum.

Buhler, on the other hand, is a 50/50 toss-up between a shutout and getting his tits lit while getting yanked after 3 innings.

Maybe I just have an irrational dislike for Buehler. I can't argue with the numbers. My perception of him getting hit hard maybe doesn't jive with reality.

I agree on Kershaw. ButI just feel his luck is pretty consistent and I think if he limits things to solo HRs he gives us a chance.
