I think Dan Haren was one of the last guys I would've wanted to see in there. You don't just simply insert someone in a situation they're not used to and expect them to excell. Game 4 was about us not hitting, and CK getting BABIP'd a couple times before Adams pulled some magic Cardinal shit that never happens until October. I truly despise that team. Every fucking year they defy statistics/odds and it's retarded.
are you implying that 1) those Cards' hits weren't hit well and 2) those pitches weren't very hittable pitches?
Definitely yes to 1) and pretty much to 2). The Holliday hit was a perfectly placed grounder off Dee's glove and Peralta's was a blooper that possibly a better short stop could've caught. The Adams homer was a hanger, but CK giving up a homer to a lefty off the curveball is something that just never happens. Seriously, it had never happened before. That's where that Cardinal Devil Magic comes in.
totally agree that the holliday and peralta hits were just well placed but the cookie he gave adams was inexcusable big game pitchers are supposed to rise up and get out of those type of situations shit, look at ventura last night -- kid walks the bases full in the 3rd and then induces posey to gidp that's what aces are supposed to do and it doesn't matter that the royals were up 7-0, because if posey goes yard it's suddenly a three-run game and the momentum swings over to the giants not necessarily hating on kershaw, but it is what it is
well then you're wrong and i'd ask you to watch the game over. if you don't have it recorded, the full game is on youtube. those balls were both well hit and well placed. Hanley was lucky to get a glove on the ball and he was actually positioned well. Dee got a glove on the ball because he's Dee fuckin Gordon and the fastest man in the sport. wrong and wrong. and to 2) both of Kershaw's pitches were extremely hittable. the pitch to Peralta, for one, was a 91MPH fastball ( which lets you know where Kershaw's velocity was at ) over the inside of the plate. and he hung a curve to Holliday as well. you just said the curve was a hanging curve, so how do you then pass off the HR as something that never happens if the curve was hung? it's MLB baseball..guys in the show kill hanging curves. the curveball doesn't have a name on it. " oh, it's a hanging curve from Clayton Kershaw..i'm not gonna swat it. " no. a hanging curve is a hanging curve. you hang it, there's a better shot at it leaving the park. cut the bullshit, dude.
Yeah I agree. I was just stating that this is something that has never happened to CK, ever. That's a fact. For sure though, the curveball should've been better placed. Thanks for the great response and willingness to see both sides.
and i'm not solely blaming Kershaw because he shouldn't have been in the game and the Dodgers should've scored more runs. but when you let Kershaw go out in the 7th having already thrown 94 pitches on 3 days rest and then you have Baez warming up before Kershaw even gives up his 1st hit..you're sending mixed signals, Mattingly. and you pretty much know Kersh doesn't have much goin. that said..regardless of blame and where people wanna put it..Maddon is a better manager than Mattingly and we deserve a better manager. need AND deserve.
you yawn at facts? is that because you were sleeping and dreaming when you were making shit up earlier? you can respond better than " yawnnn "
if you're gonna compare Ventura to Kershaw, let's wait until Ventura's going on 3 days rest for his team and must go 8 innings because he doesn't have a trusted/all-time bullpen waiting in the wings.
without a doubt aces are supposed to get out of jams, regardless of the situation in '88, hershiser came out of the pen -- on zero days rest, after pitching 7 innings the day before -- to get out of a bases loaded jam in a 1-run game, and save game 4 of the nlcs and yeah, you could argue that situation was different too but the bottom line the point i was trying to make is that what's your "big guy" is supposed to do, take the lead and get you a w doesn't matter if it's full rest, short rest or no rest if you're not ready to go, he shouldn't take (or be given) the ball yes the situations were different, but the fact remains -- ventura got out of his jam, kersh did not
Since according to this thread Mattingly clearly should have pulled a short rested and tired Kershaw after 6 innings, lets go back to the game thread (page 107) and see the kind of valuable advice DSP posters had for DBB before Kershaw gave up the lead.
I was dead on about that 3rd run, huh? Lol. I was perfectly ok with that decision then and still am today. However, i'll sit here and argue all day that Maddon is a better manager than Mattingly and we blew a chance at upgrading.
what the fuck? the pitch to Holiday was curve off the plate? and the pitch to Peralta tied him up in knots, jammed him hard, look at his swing. and if there isn't a runner on 1st it's an easy pop out.
Maddon signs with the Cubs Honestly don't think its a big deal, that's just me though. I don't love Don, but I truly don't think his effect on this team can be THAT enormous. He's had regular season success with this team, and if you wanna throw out that he didn't win it all well neither has Maddon (completely different situations and I'm not saying this factors into MY opinion, just saying itd be an easy thing to say) But if Friedman, who knows Joe Maddon's effect as well as anyone, didn't think it was worth it to replace then I'll put a bit of blind faith in him for this. In the end, Maddon is gonna get credit for the Cubs being good cause they have a damn talented team, and Don is gonna get blame if we fuck up. Maybe Maddon is better with youth and Don is better with older egos? Anyways, it comes down to the players. Ned yost is close to winning a World Series , who is WORSE then Don in game management (speaking of which, Maddon bunts more then Don hehe). Maddon is a hell of a manager and I woulda been excited to have him here. But change for the sake of it could also hurt and although Don pisses me off im not gonna lose sleep over him staying here
