I personally don't see a scenario where Forsythe isn't on the team next year. And I'm not mad at that either.

    really?
i could easily see them letting him walk
in addition to taylor, barnes can play 2b
but imo it all depends on what logan does these next few months

18 year old Keibert Ruiz who's a catcher went 2 - 4 in his 1st action in Cucamonga. Going to have to go check this guy out soon in Rancho. Another catcher Will Smith a 22 year old made his AA debut but it was a rough night physically because he was hit by 2 pitches. Stole a base though! Keibert even though he's in Single A is ranked 1 spot above Will in our top 30 prospect list . Our catching depth is pretty promising when you consider how barren it was 4 years ago. Connor Wong who is another catcher was signed this past week, he was our 3rd rounder this year. Garrett Hope was just promoted to Cucamonga to join Keibert and so far he's 3 for 8 with a HR. Even the Ogden Raptors have a hot hitting catcher Hendrik Clementia who's 20 is hitting .380 with 2 HR's sheesh! :D

Forsythe has the kind of defensive versatility that they like and is cheap labor at the least, so I'd be shocked if he weren't brought back, even if it's a bench role.
He's solid cover for 3/4's the IF and has experience in the corner OF, so he could go there in a pinch as well.
But I think in all likelihood they're going to want to see an expanded sample size from Forsythe because this was an off year that began with a pretty significant toe injury..at the very least they have to find a trade for this man and get comp

He's only thing resembling a decent leadoff hitter on the current roster.

Hoping Verdugo can fill that role in the future.

It is amazing how this FO has really targeted catching depth and have done a solid job with development thus far. That is a position where too much good talent can be a very valuable resource in trade talks. Ruiz sure sounds like a star in the making, just hope his power stroke comes on here in the next couple of years. Someone that could take the reins from Yaz when he is hitting his 30's would be nice.

No way does he walk after this season. Even though he has been off and on most of the year, he has absolutely crushed LHP and has been a versatile defensive player. Only way could I see them letting him walk is if he gets a gnarly injury that makes him iffy on whether or not he can even play next season. He has started to heat up again, which is what he was starting to do before the injury bug nabbed him earlier in the year, and his overall numbers are not that awful. No they are not great, but they are far more respectable than they were. Another thing to look at is he's at 1.2 WAR currently at 54 games, over a 162 game schedule that is a 3.6 WAR player, which is an incredible value at only 8.5 Mil owed next year. His contract is going to get picked up, now whether the team keeps him around next season after that is a different story.

Just curious... anyone know at what point a minor leaguer has the ability to leave the organization and sign on with another team if he feels he's not being given a shot to advance to the bigs? Is it a set number of years?

It's six years I think. I think after 4 years is when you're eligible for rule 5, where if you haven't been placed on the 40 man roster, every team gets the chance to select you and they have to put you on their active roster all year. I'm trying to simplify it but that's the basic sense behind it all

Thanks doyerfan. I was curious about Kyle Farmer. This is his fifth season now. Looks like there's talent behind him, and obviously with Grandal and Barnes no room ahead. He's shown he can hit for average, especially relative to his position. Not saying he's going to make it as a starter, but he could backing up for some major league team now.

For Rule 5 it's 4 years if they are 19+ when signed, and 5 years if 18 and under. (Age based on their age on June 5 of the year signed)

He was rumored to be the #1 prospect in the draft before his contact issues creeped up. If they correct his swing, he could be an elite CF'er and cornerstone player for this franchise. Really hope he has a chip on his shoulder and pushes to better himself. Could also be a fast mover if everything falls into place.

Kendall is more likely imo, I don't think Peters will amount to much more than a 4th OF'er unless he can make a change in his approach without sacrificing too much of that power. He is striking out A FUCK TON
