    precisely...

it'll never happen... we must teach our children well...

I remember when everybody and their brother was jumping on the bandwagon that Michael Jordan was the best basketball player ever and while he was pretty damned good I had to point out exactly what did Jordan win BEFORE Magic and Bird retired? That would be "Not a damned thing!" The 'best' of all time and he couldn't win shit until both Magic and Bird were gone doesn't make him the best of his own time let alone best of all time.

Clemons and Randy Johnson were HoF good, and Verlander is really tough but match any of them up against Koufax last three or four seasons... not even close.

Koufax had 27 wins and 27 Complete Games in his final season. And he was only 5' 9". The mans huevos needed a wheelbarrow.

Comparing the legacies of the Lakers and Dodgers is like comparing apples and bananas.

Of course, I have no idea what really goes on out there fan/street level....I'm in NJ , waiting for fucking a predicted THREE FEET OF SNOW. I kid you not.
But it seems to me, a World Series championship would easily take back the city. Easily.

i heard yesterday that some areas were expecting up to 5 feet

At this point I'm thinking the title of this thread should be changed to:
Can the Dodgers recapture the city of Los Angeles from Clippers?

    funny but rather premature...

The Lakers have 17 World Championship banners, the Clippers barely make the playoffs most years. OK this year the Clippers look better but in no way does that make Los Angeles the "Clippers" town any more than Los Angeles became Angels town after the 2002 championship.

The Anaheim Angels will have to win a lot more than once to even be spoken in the same paragraph as the Dodgers in owning Los Angeles.

The Clippers are not even mentioned in the same book as the Lakers when it comes to owning LA.

    idk cap
at least the clips reside in the city they represent
    i hate the angels
not the team or players necessarily, but moreno & co
    just a pompous ass

"...the Clips reside in the city"? more like they horned in on the Lakers sweet new Staples digs like some fat red headed kid who won't take a hint... what kind a arena has two Home locker rooms for crying out loud? Fuck the Clippers...

And when the Angels last won a ring... at least the Disney staff properly called them the Anaheim Angels!! That was OK.

...and Arte of Los Angeles was still in Phoenix then...

I like the Angels but I have to agree that Moreno is a tool for renaming the team to try and get dibs rights to the Los Angeles name.

The Clippers are a better team. They still will never own LA. That's not even worth discussing. Impossible. Stop it.

The Angels: I don't hate the players or team. I hate the owner and fans---the way the brand themselves and act elitist. They are ignorant people who act like Dodger Stadium is a dangerous place and LA is all a giant ghetto.

Hate to break it to you but LA 'proper' IS a giant ghetto... just sayin'

Sadly the typical 'elitist' Angels fans appear about as baseball savvy as a typical Laker fan is basketball savvy...

You do realize that there are loads of nice districts within LA proper that are mistaken for cities. LA has beautiful parts, and like any major metro city would, some bad parts. It's a concept that doesn't register with orange county folk.

I would rather not be THE sports team in the city because then we would get awful fans who don't know anything about baseball and just root for a winning team. like most laker fans I know.

if it would happen though, it would have to start with this team winning a ship and the kids that are 12,13,14 that will be the next generation of fans. those kids will think dodgers first, also if the Lakers suck dick for the foreseeable future

Yeah I know, I've spent time in many different areas of LA.

But those nice parts you speak of such as perhaps Santa Monica is actually called Santa Monica.
Beverly Hills is not called LA it's called Beverly Hills.
Palos Verdes is called Palos Verdes

East LA is eastern Los Angeles.
South Central LA is southern central Los Angeles

Are we now calling the San Fernando valley part of Los Angeles 'proper'? It shows on some maps though not all. I'd think not but I know that the greedy politicos might disagree as they enjoy the fine tax base coming from The Valley

What neighborhood are you trying to defend? Anything within 10Miles from Chavez Ravine? 20Miles? Compton, Hawthorne, South Gate?

OK then centrally located Dodger stadium is within 20M of San Marino and South Pasadena and those are certainly a nice places... but then again those residents refer to their homes as San Marino and South Pasadena and not Los Angeles.

Brentwood, Bel Air, Playa Del Rey (and other parts of the Westside are in LA proper). The San Fernando Valley is in LA proper. It is. LA is a big place.

Century City, Westwood, and areas in the hills of Hollywood as well.

I'm not making it out to be a palace. But LA is enormous and there are districts within city limits that are fantastic.

And I'm not retarded dude. Compton and Southgate are independent cities. And shitty ones at that.

Chill buddy, Compton is listed as part of Los Angeles within several of the maps I just looked at. As is South Gate. Or I would have picked other burbs.

No worries and no one is claiming anyone to be a tard, but I'm just saying that Los Angeles 'city' , and not the entire LA metro area, but within the 'city' those unnamed locations can be rather rough spots.

Just like parts of northern Orange Co. aren't so nice. Whatever.

Compton and Southgate are 100 percent just cities in south Los Angeles County; Just like Commerce, Bell Gardens, etc. Had family live in both. Watts would be a similar, comparable area that is a Los Angeles proper neighborhood, unlike Compton and Southgate.

North OC isn't ghetto at all. Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, La Palma, etc are all very nice areas directly on the border of LA county. It isn't what pop culture would think of as "the OC", because it is basically an extension of LA county, but it's very nice.

I understand what you're saying. But you came into this assuming I don't know the difference between 'proper' and county, which I do. South LA (both city and county) are not very nice. Agreed. But LA is an enormous place with fantastic neighborhoods and districts in the hills, the coast, the valley, and many places in between. For every Santa Monica and Beverly Hills that are their own cities--there are the Bel Air/Brentwood/Westwoods and Playa Del Reys that are in fact within the CITY of Los Angeles.

    No worries. Just saying.

    No worries on this side...

I was just slamming on LA 'proper' or LA 'city' or whatever... No specific slights intended towards fellow DSP kin nor towards any of the little burbs. Don't go ratting me out to Vernon but fuck Vernon. I have friends who have claimed that there are nice parts of Torrance... but when I've driven through Torrance I never see them. So I'm guessing that maybe the nicer parts of Torrance might be nicer than the nice areas of Hawthorne but that ain't saying so much.

Don't mind me I'm just working up a neo-elitist prick attitude as happens about this time each week... it's a Friday and it's about beer thirty somewhere...
