They don't have a solid closer and with the way they manufacture runs, adding Chappy would make them scary. Even if they don't add SP.

 

It was actually about those three because there was no news or movement about any trades or acquisitions for those pieces at the time of the post. We all were focused on SP and those three were in play at the time.

We ended up with none of these guys. So given everyone's feelings back then, and what could be achieved, did this FO out think itself!

 

If we don't do anything else, I am super happy. We immediately get better, kept our top tier prospects, addressed needs and added a top-end prospect.

I'm a HUGE fan of Alex Wood and am stoked to have him in the rotation for years to come. Great, great work.

Right there in your point is where you mention me saying that all they need is a legit Game 3 starter ( not an ace)...and you question the FO's focus and leave out Cueto/Price/Hamels. I'm just sayin. Let's be accurate in this exercise.

The more I think about it the more I think they never were going to make a move for a big starter unless they got a great deal. They obviously, based on these deals, assessed that wasn't going happen so they didn't go above what they were comfortable with. Still hoping for Chapman or Kimbrel though.

Again, I just posted your own post with you explaining your own point in the opening. There's really no more to it. You can start with the insults if you like...I'm just tryin to get across that you were wrong about this FO's focus and ability to use their assets to get what they need. You said they didn't have the focus to get what I and others said they needed and they did just that.

You were right in that wouldn't get an ace ( later), but there are few of us who actually felt like they absolutely needed a 3rd ace to pitch a Game 3 in the 1st place, so it's like what is your goal here? No, the FO didn't out-think themselves...yes, the FO has enough focus to use their assets correctly to get what they need.
