MLB Investigating Red Sox’ International Signings
By Jeff Todd | May 11, 2016 at 3:35pm CDT

3:35pm: Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports that the league has yet to question the Red Sox, but players themselves have indeed been questioned (links toTwitter).

11:23am: Major League Baseball is investigating the Red Sox in relation to the team’s 2015-16 international signings, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports. In particular, the league is said to be looking into the club’s actions in Venezuela.

Boston entered the current July 2 signing period with a prohibition on any bonuses of over $300K, a penalty that stems from the club’s prior-year investments (including, most notably, Yoan Moncada) and will carry over for one more signing season. Nevertheless, Badler explains, the organization was able to land several highly-rated international talents for somewhat surprisingly low bonuses.

You're gonna get injured or busted for roids anyways, Jake. So get your contract. Screwing the Cubs would be a bonus.

We can hope the Arrieta contract works out as well for Theo as the Crawford and JD Drew deals did in Boston.

Drew helped win a World Series and he unloaded Crawford on us and won another one.

    Worked out pretty well.

    Dodgers outright Casey Fien
by Jeff Todd | MLB Trade Rumors — 1 minute ago

The Dodgers have outrighted reliever Casey Fien, according to Jon Weisman of Dodger Insider (via Twitter). Fien, 32, had already been optioned to Triple-A after being claimed off waivers from the Twins.

The veteran righty obviously passed through the second time around, suggesting that Los Angeles was the only organization interested in taking on the rest of his $2.275MM salary. Though Fien could have refused the assignment, that would have meant giving up the cash as well.

It seems that the Dodgers were drawn to Fien because of a rising swinging strike rate and steady fastball velocity. Of course, he’s also been hurt badly by the long ball and owns a 7.90 ERA, though that’s due in part to some misfortune — such as a 22.7% HR/FB rate that stands at over twice his career average and a somewhat elevated .372 BABIP-against.

Those peripherals reflect performance and skill as well as luck, of course, but the Dodgers evidently saw enough cause for optimism to put in a claim. Certainly, it’s hard to find arms at this stage of the season with Fien’s solid track record, and it doesn’t hurt that the club can now stash him in Triple-A without occupying a 40-man spot. It’s worth noting, too, that Fien can also be controlled for two more years via arbitration if he makes good on his chance

He was lucky the Dodgers were so desperate to get Adrian. I don't see any other scenario where another team would take on that contract.

There is a science to that.
    Its just not yet published.
Well it was, but a long long time ago in a universe far away.
Which means it will be in the future.
Being how circular the circus tent tends to be.
But if the man with the top hat does not mind the elephant in the room.
And the fortune telling virgin has her heart stolen by the dude with the throwing knives.
Then dont be surprised if the child born has a very keen eye and can hit the mark from a thousand yards.
Because if the knife thrower can hit his target from distance then so can his words hit home.
And a woman can become impregnated by one man while impressed by another.
Then science does the dirty work inside.
You dont need a sleepy nurse to switch a baby.
But some muggles to do the smuggles.
A heart is a terrible thing to waste.
If a father wastes his then someone will waste him.
And its usually his own foal.
At least thats the way the stories go.
So if you got a wife take good care.
Because a good leader of a big top has to keep a focus on his circus lady at all times.
Not just physically but in his minds eye.
If his heart isnt in it then all the control in the world wont mean a thing.
If her heart goes elsewhere then the young bun in the oven might not come from your grains.
Even if she never leaves your sight.
Because the circus lady has a strange magic.
And the knife thrower can hit from long range.
Which is a rare science indeed.

    nah, thats just an analogy
he was a player of cards and billiards
and a mechanic who fixed stuff for other people
but i think the gambling was a problem
because he always carried foreign currency and heavy steel
yet always preached never ever to fight
to always keep your hands clean and your chin off the ground
as a cards player im sure he needed to protect his hands
and i think he had a glass jaw
but he kept his hands too close to the vest
i had to become a thief just to get a peek into his life

    Never said that.
    He was literally a mechanic.
    Had huge caveman heavy hands.
His brothers and father are all military but him.
He liked to gamble and the club.
Was a union leader before i was born but because of frequent trips to mexico he lost his job at the plant and became a mechanic.
Never saw him fight. He would chew me out each time he found out i had been in a brawl.
He hated guys who fought with their hands.
He preferred to fight with his mouth.
I was a huge gary payton on the court but no match as a shittalker compared to pops.
Yeah as a wild eyed kid i thought my dad was secretly a G. Or worse a G-man.
It was the only explanation for all the mystery in his life. And why he was always impeccably dressed and groomed. How could he afford those awesome black suits and constant pan-am flights?
We lived in a one bedroom apt in whittier.
I was born in a rented garage in eastlos.
I had to be a detective.
I needed answers. I needed truth.
I folowed him to the club.
Learned how to pick his locks to glimpse his treasures before fear awe and guilt would overcome me.
Watched him play from a hidden corner of shady bars. They new me as his kid so when i got caught by bouncers it was no issue. I just sat in the corner and watched till he was done. Then he would chew me out on the way home or make me walk.
He never taught me anything because he did not want me to follow his footsteps.
I just learned by watching and listening.
Learning his tells and how he would cheat.
We woukd actually bond over me discovering him cheating someone at cards. He couldnt ever talk about his cheating to anyone obviously but since i knew he would gloat and boast about it with me. He enjoyed that at least somebody knew how brilliant he felt he was cheating all these brutes out of money guns jewels and cars.
But im sure he got his ass kicked a few times and someone poured sugar into the tank of his 64 and a half mustang which he was a little too proud of.
If he was a G he was most likely a Fredo type.
He had his entire face removed and his facial bones reset in plastic and metal. Aftee months in the hospital and much plastic surgery he came home. Mom said he was in a bad car accident.
I was a toddler so i just know what she tells me. He never talked about it. Mom says he was a completely different dude after that. A total heartless ass-hole.
And is lucky to be alive and retired in the desert.
Growing fruits and veggies in his garden.

Holy shit Rube. Quite a tale you've got there.
Make a great book. If you could be a wee bit less cryptic, with your talent with words, it could be something.
