It's pactum factum now, and in the books. Nothing can be done about it, in spite of volumes of words here and everywhere else before it happened, and the surprising continuance en masse about it after Harper is a done deal.
What's really important is that we still have a genius, super clever FO, and has brilliantly and wisely spent this off season, traded away playmakers, all while maintainng the mantra of the highest level of adulation previously bestowed on them.
    Let's get our priorities straight.

Lux, Ruiz and Verdugo have all become incredibly important going forward. They all have all-star upside and all play our weakest positions. Peters is the one that can change a lot of things as he has the upside to actually be a superstar, but a lot of things will need to go right for him to reach that.

Kershaw has got his legacy contract. He will ride out his deal as a really good but severely overpriced mid rotation starter.
The Dodgers are actually a very good team now.
The team has shored up the few holes it had.
Pollock will be a huge impact offensively as a solid professional leadoff hitter that can set the table for the mashers.
We have not had that in years and our inability to commit to manufacturing runs starts with not having a true leadoff guy.
Puig was too wild an individual with too much raw talent to follow a proscribed game plan to a T like a professional in an analytics motivated team has to be.
The team has some young stars with another year of maturity under their belts as well as a few journeymen that have put up star-like seasons and look to continue in that JT mold.
Add to that a fresh new crop of young stars that have been held back and are chomping at the bit to show their full potential as soon as they get their moment to shine.
And we have another year of the Chase Utley effect permeating through this organization.
Look at the types of players that have been removed from the organization lately and then look at the types brought in.
I think many of us Dodgers fans are in for a surprise.
This team looks more like a TEAM than any in years.

    CF: Pollock = Table setter
    3B: Turner = Run creator
    SS: Seager = Contact hitter
    RF: Bellinger = Cleanup hitter
    1B: Muncy = Classic slugger
    LF: Joc = Modern slugger
    2B: Kike = Mighty mouse
    C : Barnes = Modern catcher

    C: Martin = Classic catcher
    1B: Freese = Veteran hitter
    SS: Taylor = Super utility
    RF: Verdugo = Contact hitter
    LF: Toles = Mighty mouse

Kershaw, Buehler, Urias, Hill, Ryu, Maeda, Ross
Kenley, Kelly, Baez, Ferguson, Cingrani, Floro, Fields

That is a deep team. Sure depth is old news but its not just cheap depth.
Lots of these guys have high ceilings or have had massively great seasons recently enough to make you believe they can do it again.
And their floors are not low. Even a mediocre Joc that can't hit lefties is still a good player vs righties.
If Taylor and Kike aren't hitting home runs they are at least contributing in other ways.

Our catchers can now catch the ball.
That alone makes me thing we can win the World Series.

Yeah, that's why I said Peters and not Verdugo. I could still see Verdugo being moved since he's ready and really nowhere to go.
Ruiz, yep. Forgot about the fella. Agreed
Lux is probably due up 1st

I'm excited about our young core. The parade will be coming. Kershaw and kenley will be back. Seager returns. Walker.

    Fuck bryce harper.

The FO is making a bet that the young talent can rise up and completely replace the higher priced players. In other words, this is a “soft” reboot....a down low, under the water level reboot.

CK will fade. JT will fade. Jansen will fade. Even Pollack will fade. These are just bridges for the Urias, Seagar, Bellinger, Verdugo of the world.

I think the FO knows the window was narrow, and it shut closed when we lost against the Astros. The Red Sox series just confirmed it.

So no use shooting our load on Harper. My feeling is that they want to take the Astro’s road. Suck, kinda, but ultimately have the young ones step up.

The FO is doing what they have to do, working with this ownership group. Friedman here to turn water into wine for Guggs. Fuck Guggs

Harper would've opened up the window a lot. I'm still mad that Joe Kelly was the only reliever we signed. They should've signed one more.

And that this FO is doing so well with the farm just emboldens Guggs to keep them aiming at Pollock/Hill caliber MFs in FA, keep telling them to go out at the trade deadline and be aggressive using specs to add what they need.

I'll be damned..ultimately, we're too good on the farm. Lol We may need a full farm collapse like SFG had for Guggs to OK the major signing of a FA in his prime. Smh

Going down the list of guys in the article:

    Jose Abreu: No thanks
Paul Goldschmidt: will extend with STL.
    Scooter Gennett: Sure.
    Xander Bogaerts: Yes please.
    Anthony Rendon: See above.
    Didi: Meh
Marcell Ozuna: Sure, but likely not at the huge number he will want.
    Castellanos: No thanks.
    Gerrit Cole: Sure.
    Chris Sale: Yup.
Kluber: Indians will pick up the option.
Verlander: will sign short high AAV deal in Houston.
Betances: Yep, but they'll never do it unless Kenley walks.

    Just my $.02

How must DC feel? They consider themselves big spenders and a big market, have spent quite a bit. And their best player leaves for big money..not to go near his home, but over to the rival.
    RIP DC

    and i never did
didn't think there was ever a real chance
wasn't ever really sure why we'd want such a left centric lineup
and have never been sold on the bryce potential angle
i'm genuinely excited to see how the team comes together
i think the entire situation would have been toxic for the team

    i’m torn...
would have liked harper for the right deal
but certainly not for what the phils gave him
13 years with no opt outs could be a death sentence
    we’ll see
and as @blazer5 alluded, excited to see verdugo get a legit shot

Phil's are rolling the dice, betting that 2015 wasn't a fluke. But 2015 was a long time ago. They'd just better hope he can help them win it all in the next 3-4 years, because his productivity will trend down, and they'll be stuck with him for a long ass time after that happens. Sure, big contracts can be traded, but there's a price for that, and it will be immense on this one. I know a lot of people here were torn on this and/or disappointed... I actually felt relieved when I heard the news. Sure, I would've taken him at the right price, but it was evident early that would not be a possibility.

Phils just made themselves even more attractive for Trout and the fact that Harp went for the $25M AAV gives them more flexibility to get that done. When the Phils go all in, they go all in. Again, to jog the memory..Cliff Lee/Cole Hamels/Roy Halladay. So go ahead and get your kicks in on the Phils while you can. In 2 years time, we could be putting our heads between our legs and kissing our asses goodbye.

I still don't see it for Verdugo. Maybe I'm going blind. Let's see..we have Pollock in CF, we have Belli in RF, and we have Joc in LF. Soooo....is Verdugo now the Freese of the OF? A guy who plays occasionally? Is he 36 years old now? Something has to give.
