I really hope we keep Puig. He's not a middle-of-the-order bat, but he plays well as a dangerous bottom-of-the-order bat with defense and energy.

I agree with you on this all, but thinking about your question, Elgin Baylor and
    Kenny Stabler come to mind.
    And Roy Campanella.

Different time Blue, in your time people were way more professional and overachievers than they are now. Specially since my generation of slackers took over.

If you make the argument that Kershaw sucks because hes a loser with the heart of a kitten who always is shown to be too small for the big moment yet you also hate the game coming out of Yasiel Puig... your argument means shit.
Because if you value so highly what you say Kershaw lacks then you should bow down at the altar of our very own walking talking Jobu.

This was less my opinion and more refreshing what others around the industry were hearing. Basically the belief was that had the team won it all and Manny was a big part of that, there was no way that this org could allow a postseason hero walk afterwards. I mean, yeah if he turned into a dominant player in the playoffs and world series, I certainly would have wanted him back.

I get it, but I think the years of Ace Kershaw are behind us and paying him as such could hinder the team in other aspects. Is he an all time great? Absolutely, no doubt. Do I want to see the club paying him $30M a year just so he can eventually retire as a Dodger? Eh, not really. I compared him to Greinke in that I felt that he would still be a good pitcher for a couple of years, but by the end of his contract, we probably wouldn't be regretting letting him go. In their primes, Kershaw was certainly the better pitcher, but Greinke also has a much deeper arsenal and that can allow a pitcher to age more gracefully. Kershaw is going to have to show now that he can adapt to losing a tick on what was a ++ pitch and now bleeds into his second best pitch. That is why I am a bit more skeptical on Kershaw since he has struggled in the past to add to his repertoire(change up).

I will be shocked if Kemp returns in 2019, but you never know. I think at this point he is going to clog things up a little too much for them if he stays. I threw this idea out a while ago, if they can't move him for salary relief, Grandal goes bye bye and they miss on Realmuto/Ramos, why not call the Blue Jays and see about a one for one swap of Russell Martin for Kemp? They have similar money owed, but Martin is a smaller tax hit and his all around production is probably better than Kemp's (who would become the Jays DH). This is obviously not the ideal scenario (someone taking Kemp for $5+M is ideal), but it could be a way to fill a short term hole that wouldn't necessarily cost the team more, but would fill a need.

I agree in that Wood is probably a goner, but the whole Maeda situation at the end of the season does raise an eyebrow as well. Maeda is still a somewhat decent value, but he no longer looks like the steal that many first thought he could be. His stuff not being near what it was for last postseason was really upsetting, as were his general ups and downs throughout the year. It is still a contract that is hard to part with. Wood never recovered to what he was at the beginning of last year. The velo drop continued and had it not been for his move to the pen, his year over year decline would probably have been a full 2 MPH's like Kershaw's. He is going to be fairly expensive this year and the club could probably recoup some decent prospects for him.

I am kind of torn on Puig, he is a FA in a year, struggles against lefties and blocks the teams top prospect who has somewhat similar defensive tools. His energy does seem to drive the team and him being in a contract year could be something to behold. I said earlier, if the team signs Harper, I abso-fucking-lutely want to see them keep Puig. Those two guys together would be a lot of fun. At this point, I honestly don't know what great value you could get in return for him and he may be worth holding on to as he is probably worth more to us than other teams may feel. The comments by the FO about readdressing platoons has me thinking that Pederson is likely on the way out.

I feel Hernandez and Taylor are probably safe from getting moved. Their abilities to be super subs lengthen the bench too much and there aren't many options coming besides maybe Drew Jackson on the farm. Guys that can play 6-7 positions well like they do and hit like they do, are incredibly valuable. I just hope the Dodgers stop relying on them as everyday starters so that maybe teams do not figure them out.

    - The belief around baseball is that the Dodgers and Kershaw are working towards a deal. Morosi is saying that the chances are good that the two will come to terms on an extension, but this thing is not done yet and there is still a decent chance that it falls apart. General feelings in other front offices are that Kershaw is overpaid, but multiple teams around baseball would give him a big contract due to pedigree and all that jazz

    - The Cubs could pull a surprise move and retain Cole Hamels and his $20M option. They are also said to be trying to negotiate an extension, but if it can't be done they could spend $14M of their money and take the $6M from the Rangers for the buyout and instead use it in the option.

    - Trevor Rosenthal signed a 1 year deal with the Nats with a lot of bonuses and options. Rosenthal missed all of 2018 recovering from TJ.

    - Brewers pitching coach Derek Johnson is taking is talents to Cincinnati to be their new hitting coach. This is considered a major loss to a coaching staff that has seen a couple of departures since the end of the season.

Good post by BDK and yours above

We ALL know that humans are greedy. We were butt hurt momentarily about losing Greinke to 1/4 Billion dollars but agreed that he deserved his cash out. I see Kershaw as no different. We only have a few hours to wait to learn but do we really expect him NOT to be as greedy as Greinke.. or any of us might be? He's not likely to ever get another contract so somehow he's got to pay for all those kids in Africa.

Predicting... looking back after failing to advance at all in next year's playoffs, and thinking that saying sayanora now is about as good as it gets. "IF" the fucktard nerds want to prove how smart they are then they grind him without pity or mercy and get him to take 'whatever' to stay or just GTFO. To do so they'd have to abuse his fragile ego which no one seems willing to do since he's soooooo nice. Whatever.

Anything above 4/$100M is giving away coin not needed. Giving him 4/$150M or more is lunacy with his non-clutch failure rates

The Dodgers have announced their end of the year press conference for tomorrow morning at 11 am PST. Would not be shocked if this involves news about Kershaw.

The Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw have agreed to extend the deadline on his option decision until Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
    -----------
I take this to mean they are working on a new deal.
