It's amazing...the amount of overturned calls on a day to day basis is testament to how much the umpires suck.
I don't know if it's valid hypothesis, but if you transfer the overturn rate to balls and strikes, it's jaw dropping.

A huge topic. Every single game there appear two or three blatant bad calls that affect the games outcome.

They already have the tech and now it's being misused by idiot announcers trying not to upset the Umpires union as they show the perfect computer image and you can see EXACTLY where the ball was in or out of the zone.

Don't get me wrong umpiring is a thankless occupation that I've done in Little League and school ball. No one can get every call right to everyone's satisfaction. But camera's make it damned easy not to make obvious mistakes. And instant replay has helped many sports by now so why not have a section of the scoreboard (lower right corner) that flashes RED for a Strike ? Totally possible with the exception of the umpires union. As if any union has that kind of right to fuck up the game.

Or if it is going to take forever, which it definitely is, if ever at all...then at least have that superimposed K box around the zone.
It's true about the announcers...and Vinny is the umpires staunchest ally, hands down. He won't even recognize a bad call outright...old school stuff, I guess.

As a techie I was envisioning some sort of high tech window frame that would chime when hit by either bat or ball. Thus we would know if a batter "went around" conclusively.

The vision tech that they are already using are far more accurate than the umpires. My notion was to combine that laser accuracy with 'some' sort of audible chirp or chime so that it was automatic. And instant.

Grainkey is Maddux 2.0 and Verlander is figuring that out for his new approach.

Johnny Depp hits a GS in Black Mass. Totally disappears into the role of Bulger, and is chilling in this fascinating but brutal film. Not for the squeamish. Great acting.
    Don't miss it..
