    Great discussion here.

My Humble Pie story. Visited friends in SF one weekend (early 70s). Decided to catch a show at the Fillmore. One of my favorite blues/boogie bands (Savoy Brown) was heading the bill. Fourth on the bill was a British band making their first US tour.........Humble Pie. Saw them again about 5 yrs later. They killed. Their "Rockin' the Fillmore" is near the top of my favorite live LP list.

Diablo mentioned Thin Lizzy. Assuming Gary Moore was with them then? Talk about an underrated great guitarist.

Also mentioned The Tubes. They were among the opening acts for Zeppelin when I saw them in '73 at Kezar Stadium in SF.

Used to practically live there. Were you also there the night Chuck fired his band and recruited another one out of the audience?

We used to see Crue, Quiet Riot, Ranger, Y&T, and all the other HM bands come up there. Irish, I also saw The Boxboys there, a buddy of mine's cousin was in the band.

I've been lucky enough to see Page 4X. Led Zep in '77 @ the Forum. The Firm at the Forum. Page Plant at the Hollywood Bowl in '98 and Page with The Black Crows at The Greek.

    those were the days man
you can still see the Tubes they play Agoura every other month it seems
they still sound great and the freak show around the stage never fails to entertain
pretty sure Moore was there but i'm not sure as that is one show i don't remember everything
it used to be part of the fun seeing who would be the guy in our crew that got lost and showed up to the car after the show
i remember a Nugent show we were on the second deck in long beach i think
we drank a bunch of schlitz talls before heading in and both of us were just bloated and piss drunk not saying much
the show starts and he suddenly bolts up and screams woooooo! and runs to the railing and pukes over the edge
turns around w a maniac look and bolts for the exit
im stunned buy want to see the show so i just hang out and he never comes back
said he passed out in some other section
like Irish said it was the best of times it was the worst of times to be sure
oh and i love the savoy brown mention
i didn't listen to them much back in the 70s but i have a lot of their music on my classic rock stuff

We use to hit the Greek all summer.. sometimes inside but most times in the trees smoking trees... until LA weekly fucked everything up with their write up on free shows behind the Greek..

Shout out to the tree people..

i was standing in line at a lowes store w a giant green star i had found in their garden area
there was a kid in the cart in front of me and he started saying "star" "green star" and i told him i was going to paint it blue
blue? thats the Dodgers color and his dad says "always Dodger blue" and i look up at him at its Chris Robinaon
talked about the team and all sorts of nonsense about the star and his kid
never let on that i knew who he was but dude was very down to earth

Didn't realize how good of a lead player his brother was until I saw him as part of an Experience Hendrix tour a couple of years ago.

On the surface it sounds like some cover band bullshit, but it's not. They did two and a half hours are true to the Hendrix sound.

The tour group we saw included Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Buddy Guy, Danny Robinson, Billy Cox (Band of Gypsies bassist), Johnny Lang, Eric Johnson and Doyle Bramhall II, among others.

Very much worth the effort to see these guys.

Never been to the Greek or the Hollywood Bowl. Been to the Orpheum (Ray Davies), the Roxy (Dave Davies) and the El Rey (Jeff Beck). Also saw a James Gang reunion show at what was called the Gibson Amphitheater.

Old high school friend of mine opened a night spot about 20 minutes from where I live. Place held about 150 people and he booked people like Eric Johnson, Johnny Winter, Dave Mason, Frank Marino, Les Dudek and Leslie West. Place closed about three years ago. Really miss it.

As we later found out with Rolf Harris and Jimmy Savile, tragic youth often didn't have a choice in the matter.
