Willie McCovey pardoned by President Barack Obama
    ESPN.com news services | Jan 17, 2017

Baseball Hall of Famer Willie McCovey was one of 273 people to be pardoned or have their sentences commuted by President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to President Obama not only for this kind gesture on my behalf, but also for his tireless service to all Americans," McCovey said, through the Giants. "He will be deeply missed and I wish him all the best in the future."

McCovey, along with fellow Hall of Famer Duke Snider, pleaded guilty to tax evasion in 1995 and received two years probation and a $5,000 fine. The charge stemmed from unreported income received from memorabilia shows.

    Snider died in 2011.

"The only thing I'd like to say is, well, I've always tried to do the right things," McCovey told a federal judge at his sentencing hearing in 1996, according to The New York Times. "I have never willingly tried to cheat the government, and it's one of those things that was overlooked at the time and I do accept responsibility for it."

McCovey was one of 64 people pardoned by Obama on Tuesday, while 209 people had their sentences commuted, including convicted Army leaker Chelsea Manning.

McCovey, now a senior adviser for the San Francisco Giants, turned 79 on Jan. 10.

He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986 after hitting 521 home runs while primarily playing first base for 22 seasons, mostly with the Giants. He also played for the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics.

Under the headline "Old Guys Still Rock," we saw Joe Walsh at the House of Blues in Las Vegas Sat. night.

Nice set list featuring Joe's solo stuff and stuff from the James Gang. Some great solos from Joe and second lead Waddy Wachtel, whom I had of for years as a session guy but had never seen.

Just one Eagles' song that I recall. Fine by me. I much prefer solo Joe or James Gang Joe to Eagles' Joe.

Really enjoyed the venue. That I hit the majority of my sports bets and did pretty well at the tables made for a great weekend.

    such a great album
wish we could go back in time for a lot of things
but would be great to see some of the shows we missed
one of the best was when i saw the cars at the amphitheater in 79
there was this guy who opened up for them that was amazing
he ran all over the stage and his music was amazing
after he was done, i asked someone "who was that?"
    joe jackson
worst show i ever saw was a couple years later, also at the amphitheater
    echo and the bunnymen
they were lethargic and sounded like shit
    i walked out

I saw NOFX, Jugheads Revenge, Lagwagon and some other punk bands there in the early 90's. Strange venue with the tables in the middle of the room. The standing room area was narrow and long so it made for crazy pits..

    Good times tho for sure.
