As for @Gabbeth, we'd rather you stay.

With rare exception, this isn't a place that silences or berates fellow Dodger fans for daring to say something others don't agree with. It is so much worse out there on the internet. Try giving an unpoular opinion on Reddit or Dodgers Digest.

A lot of DSP political takes are incompatibile with your beliefs and it makes it hard to enjoy it here. I totally get it..imagine how annoying it is for some of us to turn on ANY mainstream news or entertainment nowadays. Take after take after take after take that we don't agree with. Often times more vile and off base than you perceive us to be. Can't say I didn't consider quitting the Dodgers all together when Roberts popped off about the White House. David Price called his teammates "White Sox" for visiting Trump. That makes it hard for me to root for him tbh. So I get you.

But like me, you came for the baseball. Stay for the baseball, imo. Politically, you have every other institution in the country on your side. What do you need DSP for in that area?

And FWIW, the Politics thread and its spill over into Off-Topic is not representative of every poster. Some of the brightest and best posters share opinions that align with yours. I won't name names, but these are #DSPRoyalty we all love.

    Respect you either way!

I think nurses and doctors and laundryworkers and pantry workers and cooks and cleaners and trash collectors and butchers and farmers and hardware salesmen and all other essential service people are priests. The real ones.
They can work during sabbaths and not sin.
If you dont get what I mean it means that folks that serve and protect the public are not just above the law... they are the spirit of the law.
And they should be allowed to spring break in a speedo listening to skid row.
    The early albums of course.

@Gebbeth is a solid poster. Obviously my venom is part of what set him off, but he's right ... several in here are pissed off at how the government is handling this virus. And we are venting plenty.

I get stay home, and I get shelter-in-place, and I get do it for the good of everybody else.

But don't judge me because I leave my house to take care of my 84 year old mother who lives alone three miles away. If some Anaheim cop has a problem with that, or Garcetti or the governor has a problem with that, they can fuck themselves and their own mother, too.

I'm not five years old. I understand how viruses can be spread, and I understand this one's particularly virulent in the way it spreads. Again, I'm not five years old.

Essential needs are just that, and the concept of a militarized police force telling me to get back in my house or to clear the streets runs against every aspect of what it is to be a free American in this society.

If I'm being a toxic asshole, which is entirely possible, then a couple of you and here are over-reactive and irrational. You are all so gullible in you believe everything you read. We are not getting 100% Medical Science and every report when here. Stop pretending it's all true because you heard it that way from one or two people. Not every Medical Professional knows what the fuck he is talking about. And neither do I.

In the end, this is still just a forum. What happens in the real world is that I'm the guy who follows rules for the good of the group, but if it's for my family at the expense a others, I choose my family. That's the way it's going to be.

Asymptomatic infections similarly confuse how the death rate is calculated.

“Since subclinical [an infection not severe enough to cause “observable” symptoms] and asymptomatic infections have been reported, [the] true case-fatality ratio cannot be estimated until population surveys can be undertaken to estimate the proportion of individuals that were infected but did not manifest symptoms,” Dr Toni Ho from the University of Glasgow previously said.

Taking into account those with mild or no symptoms, Dr Christl Donnelly – from Imperial College London – estimated a 1% fatality rate appears more likely.

“In an unfolding epidemic it can be misleading to look at the naïve estimate of deaths so far divided by cases so far,” she previously said.

“The infection-fatality ratio is the proportion of infections (including those with no symptoms or mild symptoms) that die of the disease.

“Our estimate for this is 1%.”

Where did you hear you couldn’t visit Granny and military would make you stay in your home? That’s not the directive.

No- You clearly stated that you are working from home and doing responsible things to stay away from people etc. it’s the fuck the government for telling you to stay home approach I’m taking issue with.

but you know what? At the end of the day, I think your just puffing out your chest to puff out your chest. Clearly you're smart enough to have already been isolating yourself.

You are correct. I did not hear that. But excuse me if I have an appreciation of history which tells me the government rarely relinquishes power once they exert it.

You see, I agree with you, and with everybody else who's worried about the possibility of this thing killing millions of Americans. In the end, it absolutely will not kill millions of Americans; I don't say that as a man of faith; I say that as a man who can do the math. I also know that when this virus has passed, the we are going to have to face a far longer lasting virus of the political stripe.

I have three kids, and in a month I'm about to have a fourth. Pray God my children don't succumb to this illness, nor any illness, nor me nor my bride nor you nor anyone if I could have my wishes granted ... what pandemics like this are going to kill people, and I'm not 100% convinced that this method is going to work as well as people would have it work. I'm far more concerned about the future of my children living in an America where government takes over their lives and sends up test balloons on directives to see how many people will a bad. This shit is straight out of Orwell. My children are going to survive this, and so will we. What they may not survive is a dictatorship, and it won't be just Trump who enacted it. It'll be the left-wing who decided that this is finally what they wanted & how they can get their Federal power on.

Also ... If you actually think that in two weeks, Americans aren't going to come busting out of their homes and fucking riot in the streets if they're not giving a better solution to this problem than to stay in your fucking house, I don't know what I have to tell you about human nature.

I realize that testing is not a widespread option here because we're not equipped for it. I realize respirators are insufficiently stocked in American hospitals to address a massive outbreak. I realize this is a respiratory attack that kills a higher percentage of the people who can track it than the regular flu. For about the 15th time, I'm not five years old. But the fucking government is talking to me like I am five years old, and I fucking won't have it.

Obviously I say fuck a lot.

Back to your comment... I do assume that military force is forthcoming & limits on home visits are coming. The governor, the mayor, the city, and every other power structure tells us yesterday to stay at home. They use terms like essential needs. Would you please define for me how that gets enforced? Do you really want to think that public employees who are allowed to carry guns and have physical authority to take me into custody because they deem my actions non-essential are going to handle that authority any better than people who don't know how to push and shovel people out of the way at bonds trying to get a package of toilet paper?

A week ago, did you foresee a stay at home order? If you did, you're the only one. Even my biggest liberal friends can't believe this is happening, and every one of my gun control friends is asking me if I have extra ammunition now. Two of them don't even own guns, and have asked me if they can borrow one. That's not a meme on the internet. That's the God's honest truth. And you know what... I'm a little worried that I don't have enough ammunition. If I could drive across town to my buddy's house, he's got about 10,000 rounds, and I wish I could, but another guy with a gun - he's called a cop - might stop me because that's a non-essential trip.

You seem to trust the scientific community with absolute faith. I tend to trust my judgment of how the mob behaves when left to its own devices a lot more than doctors. I wish everyone listened to their doctor, and acted altruistically and with a sense of decency, fair play, and integrity. But like I said... I'm not five years old anymore. People will absolutely lower themselves to the worst of who they are in a mob situation. And because of hoarding, and people with low integrity, and the fact that hoarders and selfish sons of bitches had emptied the shelves and mini stores of key resources, many people's essential needs are compromised and they're going to have to leave their homes in large numbers in continuing manner for the next few weeks. How much longer before stores are closed more often than their open? Answer that question now before you say that you saw it happening when it happens a week from now...

Stay-at-home is not a directive that can be enforced. But it's going to get enforced, and you watch... In the next 72 hours, or a week, or soon ... we're going to have a Kent State situation again. Mark my words.

Look, I think @Gebbeth had it right. Maybe it's best to just leave this room for a while, because when I read the comments of people who drink the Kool-Aid all the way down, all it does is raise my blood pressure.

I have always enjoyed reading your posts, @blazer5 .. . I hope you can appreciate my perspective too. I respect the holy fuck out of you because I can tell you to have a sensitivity to the greater good here. So do I. My greater good is my family. And if it's between my family and a bunch of strangers, fuck them. If that makes me a bad Christian, send me the hell. But I'll be the one with food for my kids and a mother who has what she needs.

Y'all have a nice motherfuking day...

You can be a bad christian today.
Say your hail mary and tomorrow you should feel like a better christian.
If you run out of bullets I suggest a crossbow.
Thing about bows is that every arrow is precious.
So you shoot to kill or you don't shoot.
You don't need that many bullets man.
Be a good christian and share some of them with the rest of us.
    Gun/bullet hoarders weird me out.
Until I need to borrow a gun or a bullet.
    Then its not so weird.
Like my aunt whose walls are lined with canned goods.
Everyone in the family thinks she's super weird.
    Except now.

Wait till you see my eggplant bush.
I do have tons of toilet paper.
But be careful because it grows right next to the oak tree infected with poison oak.
And you will wish you had the coronavirus if you get the kind of poison oak that grows around here.

No joke though, poison oak is one of the best remedies that kicks your immune system into overdrive.
Which I need to have since im on my way to clean some 1%er's house right now.
Dosing yourself in ace cleaning chemicals as you breathe while you work is the best way to put a smile on your face during these troubled times.

Look man I get it. You’re a guy who will think pessimistically and all that. I understand that you’re not 5. I actually never thought or said you were.

I’ve been on daily CC’s with other healthcare providers. The CDC and Health Departments in different states across the country. Finger is definitely on the pulse in that regard.

what needs to happen so we can all get treated appropriately if in fact we contract this BS is to stay home. This thing isn’t going away by any means even if we stay home. But staying home helps to keep the infection isolated so not everyone has it at once causing an inundated healthcare system. “ flattening the curve” as they have put it.

Its simple, lots of people will get this. Some will die most will get sick and show symptoms and some will never even know they had it passing it along to someone else.

The Coast guard is being deployed for humanitarian reasons and I’m not here with my head in the sand thinking all will be good. It’s a very real possibility that we are shut down and held hostage in our homes and growing up in LOS Angeles my whole life I’ve seen how riots and shit can happen.

I’m just trying to provide information to you guys. It angers me to read the BS. First China didn’t act and now we’re overreacting. Which is it?

we’re a family here at DSP. I check in here every day even if I don’t post. And when I do, I’m mostly talking shit. Almost always stay out of the politics threads. I was fired up last night because my house is constantly resetting this 14 day quarantine clock. We’re just going to have to live like this because of professional obligations. But to read how others blatantly disregard the directive, is hard to let go.

you do you... I’ll do me but don’t stop getting Granny what she needs because NO ONE is saying that.

    stay safe homie
