Well technically China is east coast, very... east coast.

Why are you all the way over there... they make the stuff you sell over there?

Picked up a gig leading a small family owned company back from the edge of closure after the death of their founder
Founder was a stud who took care of his family.. literally
    the very definition of nepotism
70% of payroll was to family members, most of whom never bothered to show up at the office
just having their checks mailed to them
    no wonder they were failing
non family members were also living large.. far larger than they needed or earned
fat salaries to disloyal pin heads who started their own competing companies
and then pillaged customer lists to grow their own biz at the expense of founder.. while he paid them
never seen nepotism so pronounced.. never
    no loyalty to be found
Founder had set up a Chinese factory
where they also lived large, too large
expecting founder to pay for them whenever they overspent.. and he did

then introduce a Taiwanese flight attendant who smiled at aging founder
and was given access to international funds
and no surprise she too set up a personal
'fund removal service' bilking family for her own empire in Taiwan
with a byzantine web of 15+ bank accounts and a 'hide the pea' game of astonishing proportions
while stationing herself just outside of founders door in CA to monitor any sleuthing that developed

and that's just the tip of the iceberg
Now the children of founder love me for trying to save their bacon
even as I cut their salaries, because they see I'm doing those things that their father used to do
    back when he had vigor

And of course everyone else hates my guts
which brings a smile to me one good eye..
as a long term entrepreneur...fuck'em... they had this day coming
I'm gonna make them sweat until they swing.. from the gallows

    Thanks for asking

    Random thoughts on China...

Most Americans are fed FUD about China, fear uncertainty and doubt, because it serves our DC thieves to keep us fearing that of which we know little and thus keeping our attention away from their own lying thievery

Pushing 200 nights in China has taught me that 'for the most part' the Chinese people and the Chinese business owners are very much like Americans. They fear their gubberment. They fear big corporations abridging their rights. They fear official graft. Unlike Americans they have an expectation that their own gubberment will 'do' something if corruption/graft is found. We seem to accept the DC elite as 'above the law' whereas they do not. And the Chinese actually DO crack down, even in gubberment ranks, and when caught the perps are not sent to a 'golf resort' to serve time.. they simply disappear. Forever.

Also unlike most Americans they have little concept of "freedom" as they've never had it so they haven't a clue what they are missing.
Also with state censorship the norm they completely fear speaking up unless enmasse whereas we bkitch openly to anyone and everyone.

Oddly I've heard that the Australians, being a former penal colony, are totally strict about truth in advertising. In China that isn't the case as advertisers get away with saying all sorts of 'marketing prose' that is complete bullshit. And those advertisers.. are giant American corporations. Coca Cola spends crazy stupid amounts on TV ads claiming all sorts of nonsense that wouldn't fly in the States yet they get away with these claims in China. Why? Haven't learned that one yet. Rogaine/minoxidil ads tout growing hair back in places (widows peaks) that US products specifically state are not the case. Kohler faucet ads promote a set of thieves breaking into a poorer apartment.. to upgrade the sink and faucets? Say what? And did you know that eating Doritos will make you win an arm wrestling tourney? Umm yeah right.

Chinese society, being just recently poorer than average peasants, are more self starting and thus more entrepreneurial than many countries, ours included. Oh we used to be this way until all wealth became so tightly narrowed into so few hands. The Chinese people routinely bootstrap all sorts of industries to react to perceived market needs in an entirely capitalistic manner. Their gubberment doesn't want to stifle such industry and as such focuses more on taxing the larger players whereas our tax laws have become so corrupted by large corporate interests that Americans are weary that they never will get an even shake. And they're right. Fuck you Apple and Google for being permitted to 'offshore' earnings to shelter them from US taxation.

Also if anyone else has noticed, the Chinese hotels, even the cheaper $50 per night style, put the Hyatt/Hilton types to shame. Opulent marble everything, fantastic architecture and yet their building codes either do not exist or are routinely ignored. Fancy hotel.. but the marble stairs tilt at an angle with stair risers that vary with every step. 6"..6 1/4".. 5.5".. 7" all on the same staircase. Insane. And Chinese roads are similarly non controlled, crazy shit where a road goes from 3 lanes to 1 lane and back because someone didn't want to clean up a construction mess so they simply route the road around it.. in perpetuity. The factory where I'm working recently erected a sheltered parking cover but in digging the foundations they cut through electrical lines. Rather than fix their mess and re-bury the power lines they simply strung the power lines in a plastic pipe 5 feet above ground along the back wall, and then built a side wall at the end of the cover.. around the plastic pipe without fixing the power lines. Now there is a brick wall, covered in stucco, with the plastic pipe permanently embedded into it. Forever.

I have also shared previously that the moronic Chinese drivers in the USA are the good drivers, those still driving in China are one step or more worse than the worse NY cab ride you've ever had. As long as no one hits another what's wrong with 3 or 4 lanes turning left even if only a single lane is designated to turn left. No one cares. Everyone jaywalks openly and cars ignore them because pedestrians have no rights if they are hit.

However to their credit the Chinese gubberment, while not close to a democracy, does not spend 7/8 of every election cycle perpetually 'fund raising' for the next election while contributing nothing but dissent about the 'other' side when both sides are complicit in the scam. And since they do not 'campaign' endlessly they actually come up with far sighted civic projects to aid their populace. They routinely work off of a 10 year plan which dovetails into their 100 year plan and their 250 year plan. We can't get the DC thieves to think past the next election.. if they even think that far in advance. And we get scripted bullshit about why high speed rail is a boondogle while our country relies upon rusted 1880's Amtrak lines wondering why everyone is passing us by. High speed rail has been around for 40 years and yet we grasp nothing in DC. Make America great again my ass. Unless some moneyed elite is set to get filthy rich nothing gets done at all. Hello toll roads.. I'm looking at you too.

There's lots more but the big picture is that the actual Chinese citizens work hard, complain less and are fairly astute business people.. easy enough to deal with.

Thanks for the awesome in depth response to my question.
Thats the kind of stuff I wish to see more of around here.

I have worked for Chinese people a few times in my life. I tend to go back to them when I feel the need that I need an education. Because my experience with them is that they expect you to be an ant or a bee in the colony. To do your work diligently without much of any training while being expected to learn on your own by researching, watching, and doing while demanding zero mistakes. Lots of accountability and responsibility yet if they feel you are doing your job they pretty much leave you alone to do your thing. There are no perks but in a way that honest approach is in my eyes treating you well.
But if they feel your work is sloppy or are slacking somehow they will micromanage you and put constant pressure for a bit until they feel you are back in good form.

After a year I have learned so much that being a bee in a hive around the queen starts giving me a bad buzzing in my head and I start to feel like one of those ungrateful nephews who wants to do his own thing.
Which is why I was asking you what you were doing in Shenzhen. I thought you were still doing the truck liner stuff and working with plastics manufacturers.

Yeah Rube most folks seems to want to mail it in and then wonder where the 'life' in their lives disappeared, completely failing to grasp that they controlled their own destiny all along. "No I never had any control" they whine, blaming any vague boogey man they can find.

My background as street trained electro-mechanical engineer turned operations exec has meant that 20+ years of my experience were in high tech with the Truck-bedz gig being the 6th of my 7 startup companies, and one that was woefully underfunded from the start. It takes $$$ to make $$$ and if one thinks that $1,000,000 will go far need only start a biz to realize that is chump change when competing against the likes of Coleman.

Your take on Chinese bosses is astute but if they see you outwork, and out sweat them, then they grant you peace = truth. Oh and they got no perks so they give no perks. Hard to blame them when viewing the entitled nature of many Americans. Your take on the beehive mentality also = truth, and so I routinely run afoul of their mindset... too bad.

    Yeah me too.

After numerous long conversations with @LAdiablo that is the primary reason I return to post here at DSP... along with lamenting with fellow Dodgers fans about our pathetic perennially choking team.

One might opine that DSP serves a greater value by permitting our younger fans to learn stray ways-of-the-world that they may not have means to gain from their own collection of elders. Easier to learn from strangers sometimes.. ok most times.

This of course includes 'some' of your rants about the values of faith far beyond those of worshiping some white haired deity. Faith in oneself is never misplaced. Faith in others to follow human nature, in all that is right, requires seeing/believing in the good of others for their own sake. Few grasp that. Many never will.

Nobody knows everything, but it takes a level of humility to accept that, which is in precious supply in our modern realm.

i suddenly feel better about having to put a bathroom in a school where there was no bathroom
digging for the sewer turned into breaking rocks in the sun and taking a different route
hoping for a sunday rough in success without pissing off neighbors or drawing the eye of burbank
the things you say about the stairs, roads, construction etc. can be said of ANY third world i've ever visited
i think more americans are injured not focusing on things like stair inconsistencies after a few pops
i've watched people go down, and being able to spot these things rather easily, noted visually exactly how things went wrong
sort of a fun analogy for life there
pay attention or pay the price since no one is promised even stairs
that family is truly fortunate to have you in their corner and had no idea you were back into the china grind
i think i told you before i'd take one of those trips w you just for the fun of it
but alas a clown providing more pussy drama and drinking your whiskey might actually be getting tiresome after all these years lol
wish you would have regaled me w that story at moms 95th it would have been a nice distraction
and btw since you accurately point out we are the masters of our destiny quit yer bitching lol
you obviously have some need for chinese culture torture
no one led you at gun point to LAX
ok ok i know i have to watch myself at this point and will grind that stream of thought to a halt
going to head home depot in an hour and pick up abs w every conceivable twist so as not to have to return later
promise to bury everything in the event you should ever visit and put eyes upon something you find irritating
reward for success, or non success for that matter, is an evening w a decent steely dan cover band at vitellos w brockert and filipinas
btw speaking of brockert his brother bob was given a medal of honor for being at the vegas shooting and saving lives
he wasn't on duty, just attending a music event w his wife when bodies starting exploding around him
he went back inside to dig the living out of the bodies while the guy was still shooting
this is what a real hero looks like
greg says he's not doing well since and i think you can see that in his face
having known the guy most of my adult life i can't even say how proud it makes me to know him and how sad it makes me to see him in pain
the men who face down that kind of horror and do something are the real men among us imo

    great posts
that twain-ism about his dad becomes more relevant each day
when we're young we think we know everything and won't listen to people who've actually walked through life
yet when we get there the young ones will not listen to us lol
some sort of ironic cassandra type curse i guess

Faith in oneself is ALWAYS misplaced.
Deep down inside we are not good people. Deep down inside we are selfish.
If you put your faith in yourself then it will take you towards the dark side.
There is a force in the universe that is a constant.
It has a light side and it has a dark side. No this is not star wars but it is the force of power in the universe.
Power is poured like water. Thats why it is named power, because it is the same word as pour.
The pouring of liquid from one place to another perfectly shows any human mind what energy is. Remember the story of Jesus at the well with him and the lady pouring water. Then the story of Magdalene pouring oil, etc... Pouring is powering. Pouring is essentially giving. Power comes from giving.

Pouring something turns its on, engages its force and it moves creating waves any any number of actions until it is stopped by a barrier.
The force i speak of can be seen from two ways.
From the front or the back.
It is all one force. There is only one. But it will appear like two different entities, like dualism to those who approach it from the dark side.
It is hard to see the truth when you are in the shadows.
Which is what the dark side is.

Look at your wife. No, really look at her face.
Or your daughter, or your mother, or your father or your son.
Now sin against them, and do it repeatedly.
Do the things that you know would hurt those others the most.
Do them and then try to look at those people in the face.
    Is it easy?
Maybe the first time, if you are the type that doesnt realize what he has done.
But when you see their face and they hide their gaze from you... then you know.
You ask, what is wrong? Because you know something is wrong but only deep down do you know.
At some point the gravity of your mistakes comes upon you and now you drop your head to the side and no longer look to look into the other persons face.
Either its you that cant look at them or they that cant look at you.
And now you must approach that person with care. And when you call they wont turn around to talk to you.
Just answer you with as little love as possible without even turning around.
All you get is their cold hard back.
And all you see is their shadow behind them.
Because you are now in the dark side zone.
And you can feel the dark side of the force of others you have selfishly wounded coming upon you.

The light side of others comes from knowing that we are all pieces of shit yet having the faith that the power of the force can shine any turd in the punch bowl into someone who can spread the light and bring life to the party.

i remember reading a metaphysics book in college
best part was the author saying that some of what he was saying was factual and some his opinion
one of [what i perceived as] his truisms has stuck with me all these years...
"do good, good will follow... do evil, evil will follow"
a friend tried to give me shit one time for giving a homeless guy some cash
"fuck dude, how do you know he's not gong to spend it one drugs?"
i explained that it didn't diminish/negate what i did because my intentions were good
he didn't agree because he was a self-serving prick

We had a black guy come in to make a delivery at the office.
The secretary for some reason wanted to fuck with him because he was not finding our door right away.
She said something about him being lost or if he was scared. He politely said naww.
She pushed on though about him being scared.
And with this great feeling in his voice he says to her "I aint scared, I know my heart".
It felt really good to hear him say that and the way he said it and the meaning behind what he said.
Which is like what you were saying and it definitely is what modern philosophy is proving in metaphysics.
That if you do what is right then you have nothing to fear, but if you do what is not right then your heart will be scared.
And anyone past a certain age should know that we do our worst things out of fear.
And all we really are is what we do.
Not what we did, but what we do and what we are doing.

Schoolchildren deserve a bathroom... you should always feel good about providing

Hilarious buddy, you'd totally be a distraction but we'd have a blast. And pussy chasing aside I'd love to have you as a wingman. Night #2 was taking out the engineers.. 9 of them and 3 Americans.. 39 Tsingtao beers later they had no chance. Night #3 was the manufacturing crew.. 7 of them and the same 3 of us.. and energetic defense but 52 Tsingtao's later we were standing and they were reeling.. night #4 was the QA team.. thank heavens they brought a few women along.. 32 beers later and we again thanked our non-Asian livers for keeping us vertical. Were you here I'd of just gotten in more trouble... that we both know

Oh and the gig happened rapid fire after Betty's 95th.. a whirlwind gig.. not that you could be found that night to share with anyways you hound dog

    A) who's bitching?... B) what torture? I'm just sharing cultural asides with the DSP boys

Them Brockert boys be studs, give them my best until we meet again! <<WTF happened to the beer drinking emoji??>>

What did I say? Embrace human nature. In all it's (entirely good) forms. You say selfish like it's a bad thing and yet cannot help but display that emotion just like every other human. Faith in oneself is all you have. If you think it takes you/makes you darker.. those are merely your own lenses, no one elses.

I hope that writing that was cathartic for you Rube... clearly you're working your way through the pain.. so there's hope.

See the good in others. Be the good in others. Thinking good of others costs nothing.. but your own demons.

Steady at the helm lad even if you think that the storm will never abate. Most drift with the tides their whole lives completely unaware they possess a rudder. Use yours. It matters. Affect lives positively. It matters.

Thanks for the reply.. I signed on tonight just to see what you'd write. I'm glad I did.

Argue with that muthafucker... LOL.. you should know better than to provoke me to go all Ghandi on your ass
