Seems like for old fogie stogies like me, that layer of performers I grew up with are just at that age where they are just expiring, not only because of disease and other issues, but what I would generally called old age....just that age when the body starts to break down. Read Helter Skelter shortly after it came out. Didn't sleep quite as well for a time. Also read Bugliosi's book about the OJ trial called "Outrage." He takes apart both the prosecution and the defense, especially the prosecution.

I remember reading Helter Skelter when I was young....parents didn't know better....but I just recall the photos in the middle pages freaked me out. I guess that's when I realized monsters do exist and the world can be a fucked up place. Then around the same time, the Hillside Strangler was running loose. That just reinforced everything. I still can't watch the Exorcist without thinking about it at night.
