the thought was that the Spurs had to let both Green and Splitter go to get Aldridge. shit may have just gotten real

Whatever, I trust in Mitch to make some good moves this off-season. More than anything, it is about next off-season.

 

This is the kind of comment I don't quite understand. What is meant by not making a "strong impression"? It's one of those unprovable statements unless you are in LA's head.

Meanwhile, with the Spurs signing Green and Kawhi to max deals, and with Duncan and Manu still needing deals, how in the world can the Spurs get close to signing LA?

 

They agreed to deals with them. They'll sign after cap space is used because bird rights

 

it's Woj reporting what he's heard from Aldridge's camp. Woj is one of the most reliable reporters in all of sports.

Duncan and Ginibili are taking less money and they're also already committed to returning, so the Spurs can go over the cap to keep them.

 

But they have cap holds in place if they are exercising their Bird rights. They can't sign FA over the cap amount so long as those cap holds are in place. Same with the Duncan and Manu contracts. Until and unless those turn into signed deals, and the Tiago deal gets done, you can't offer a close to max deal with LA.

But the other point is that with two max deals for Green and Kahwi and cap holds for Manu and Duncan, they can't approach what the Lakers can offer LA now with no strings or contingencies. Duncan and Manu would have to sign for almost vet money too to clear enough cap.

they do have cap holds. Those cap holds are much lower than the contracts they will be getting. If they get Aldridge, they'll sign DUncan/Manu to discounts, sign Aldridge, then complete the Geen/Kawhi deals. Bird rights allows them to exceed the cap amount to sign Green and Kawhi.

 

Woj has been wrong before (said we would take Okafor). And I have never heard the Spurs ever wanting to be way over the cap, which is what will happen with a max LA deal, for long term. They've never done that, so Duncan and Manu would have to sign deals in the sub $5M range to make this anywhere close to working.

 

it seems as if you're thinking that business is going down right now. nothing can be done officially until 9 days from now, so pay no attention to the order that things are going in right now. these trades can't even be made official until then. so these are basically agreements and commitments..teams moving things around in preparation. and the cap holds are for much less money as well, like Chiefs said.

 

The Spurs have not, and will not commit themselves to long term deals that would place them over the cap. Duncan and Manu have already taken pay cuts. They would have to cut to the bone to make this work.

I'm still skeptical.

 

Woj has been wrong before. when i said he was one of the most reliable sources in all of sports, i wasn't saying that he's never been wrong.

let's not make this a war on Woj just because the report doesn't say what we want it to say.

the cap is rising next year in a major way. they'll find relief next off-season.

 

looks like Chandler and Harris might be the LAL's targets before the week is done. Aldridge is expected to make a quick decision. Monroe and the Knicks look like a match. D.Jordan to the Clips or Mavs.

Chandler for 3yrs/30M or 2yrs/20M, taking into account that he's going into his 15th season and aging..Tobias Harris, 4yrs/60M, basically what Carroll got from Toronto..re-sign Ed Davis..call it a day. if Millsap goes to Orlando, Harris is probably outta there for sure.

 

Cap jumps 20 mil next off-season. they'd be over the cap for all of 1 year.
