Nice rant Rube... I'm agreeing with most everything but adding emphasis where noted above in your (shortened) rant... I'd like to see whoever the Dodger owner is step up and intend to make a difference. That doesn't happen when Nedco is dicking around with generic 2nd basemen or leftover outfielders... ... or with Nedco at all...
and ned/mccourt could very well make an argument that signing fielder actually increases the team's value... of course, that would require a modicum of intellegence and common sense something neither asshat possesses
Either way, anything is possible. I say we continue to do what us Dodger fans have done best and just wait it out. On another note, the Phillies are fucking around with Cole Hamels. Wouldn't be surprised if he was in Dodger blue next season.

Here is the deal. Fielder at 25 for 8 does not impede a sale. We have guys willing to go to 1.6ish for the team. I would imagine that the 25 for Fielder is pretty much lagniappe when put in those terms. This is simple McCourt being a moron and a douche.
Add the excitement of Fielder, the superstar, filling the stadium and selling the junk - bringing optimism for the fans, instantly putting the Dodgers into the playoff picture every year for the foreseeable future - a home run hitter - every new owners dream signing - yes, it all that makes him well worth the added percentage points. My guess is all the prospective owners are sending Boras flowers, boxes of chocolate and little love notes.
I put this in the ownership thread but it is more appropriate here I would Jizz for 5/125 25 Per is a lot of dough, but I'd rather do that and not be locked in for 6-10. Hopefully avoid the bad knee/diabetes era, etc. 1 2012: 15 M 2 2013: 27 M 3 2014: 27 M 4 2015: 28 M 5 2016: 28 M Or 8 with mutual option after 5
How about this: ? 7 years, 170, with additional salary incentives for games played (he may feel that is bogus because he's been durable thus far, but he's a fat ass; plain and simple), 30+ HR, and 100+ RBI. Player Option after 3rd year (Might be enticing for Prince) Mutual Option after 5th year (Insurance for the team more than anything) and a 5,000 dollar per month McDonalds Gift Card
Probably the biggest problem with the Dodgers signing both Fielder and extending Kemp with one year left of team control will be the inevitable contract comparisons. Really Kemp getting 10 million in 2012 and Prince over 20 million or his asking price of 25 million? 2013 on Kemp getting about 21 million and Prince 25 million? Which would you guess would be our best MVP candidate? Will Kemp mind? With the Pujols contract having come after the Kemp signing would we have gotten the same deal if Pujols had signed first? Is there any doubt that if Kemp had held out for arbitrattion he would have gotten 16 million? Wouldn't a new owner have gone higher for extending Kemp if the were willing to fork the money out for Prince?
All good points which unfortunately muddy the waters when chasing Fielder. Plainly Kemp deserves 'anything' that Fielder gets but Kemp's deal is signed already so he'll have to man up and deal with a fatter contract in the clubhouse so that they improve their odds of winning. To his credit Kemp has not previously shown 'spoiled superstar ego' issues yet so lets hope that he'd be OK since it would improve the team. I know that's asking a lot though...
Phillies are fools to let him get to free agency without a contract. If they're still talking a 1 year deal that alone tells me that Hamels would like to move. The Dodgers would ROCK having him line up behind Kershaw! Oh I forgot about McCrook and incompetent Nedco... never mind...
Buster Olney on why now might be the time for the Dodgers to sign Fielder. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog...dodgers-frank-mccourt-sign-prince-fielder-mlb Also in ownership thread with actual quotes from article.
The interesting spin is that in signing Fielder, if McCrook can do so, then Fielders contract regardless of how long or swollen, will be added to the assessed value of the team on a dollar for dollar 1:1 ratio or better. Sign him for $125M and the Dodgers just became worth another $125M. McCrook just keeps coming out smelling like roses... now would he sign Fielder knowing that it only helps his sales pitch? A rational man might but McCrook has proven he doesn't walk that path. Who knows at this point...
What about like 8 years and close to $200M, with 5 years guaranteed and the last 3 years vesting based upon his finish in NL MVP voting? Like how Carlos Zambrano has a vesting option for 2013 if he finishes in the top 3 for NL Cy Young.
i don't see this as a problem kemp got a generous contract based essentially on one year prince has proven his value over several seasons besides they're friends and kemp has already publicly campaigned for signing prince ethier will probably get his panties in a twist though
