was listening to a little talk radio today and didn't realize the sequence of events as they described
so first Shohei's people tossed the interpreter out to make a statement, which he did
then when he says Shohei loaned him money to pay off his gambling debt they accused him of lying
and said he actually STOLE the money from Sho...then interpreter confirms this is what happened
have to think there is a LOT more to this story and good Lord if he is letting the interpreter take the fall for his gambling debts its gonna come out eventually
    something definitely doesn't smell right

That's what I was essentially saying in my other post. There's more to this than what we've been led to believe. Right now it feels to me that the interpreter is taking the fall. Maybe he doesn't mind. Maybe he moves back to Japan with a big sack of cash and lives the easy life. But this isn't going away, we're going to read about it all season. Assuming it was Shohei doing the gambling and assuming none was on baseball, the only illegal thing was the service he used. Why not use a legit site and then he's in the clear? I wonder what the penalty would be for going the illegal route? Call me Chicken Little, but I can't help but think of the early days of the Bauer shitshow. We're snakebit, I tell you.

yeah i was just expanding on your thought cause i really wasn't paying attention to the details and just thought it was about Shemp
this absolutely has traction and will distract everyone and everything in its path
add the apparently dismal beginning for yam memoto and this has all the ingredients for a spectacular implosion
think anyone will feel bad for the fanbase?

What’s weird to me is that apparently this situation has been known about since last year when he was with the Angels, but it just so happens to come out on opening day for the Dodgers…?

The Angels aren't news. The Dodgers are. Plus ... the curse.

Starting to think it really is one.

the fact that his camp said it was a massive theft means that someone transferred millions without his knowledge or shemp had access to his accounts
i doubt that anyone in his position would give that information to anyone beyond a significant other, or in his case financial manager
wait, are these guys going to be outed as homos, and the engagement was just for show???
if the intention is to remain w the "he stole it" line then a financial manager of some sort has to take a fall as well and the lies will need to expand
mlb is obviously going to do everything possible to cover up for golden boy but what a fucking distraction

    not so bold prediction:
this gets worse before it gets better

    bold prediction:
shohei’s involvement is a lot more than has been speculated/reported

Just seems strange to me that if Shohei's camp wanted to hide his involvement so badly, they bungled the whole thing in a major way. To send the interpreter into the interview to say it was a loan, and then to reverse and say he stole the money, reeks of "Oh shit, they're on to us." Would've been better from the onset to go with the theft story and pay off the guy to play along. Also, how would he have access to Ohtani's money? That part doesn't work, either. And the bookie saying that Ohtani's name was on the paper trail just as a way to get more customers - knowing how private he was about the whole free agency, I call bullshit on that.

i mean, if the team knew about this prior to signing him they obviously do deserve every bit of it
but if they didn't and he is suspended/banned will they be on the line for that massive contract?
that would fuck the team for a generation competitively

Or, because sports 'journalists' are as compromised and untalented as their counterparts in the traditional realm, this is all smoke & oakum.

Seriously... since Molly "I'm a lousy writer but #MeToo" Knight broke her Bauer story, why do we even read this drivel? I'd rather read StatMan or BdKaine in here than Stephen A Smith or Bill Plashke.

Then the news will break that Mookie’s father was a power player in real estate and helped his best friend acquire an Island. That friends name?
