Will be interesting, I am watching out for any financial publication articles on to get a business perspective. They suffered if I remember right a 100 million loss last year as a result of the mess.
This link is from last year but it show what a pile of poop Time Warner had financially gotten themselves into. It's good read in hindsight and may be a decent perspective of today.

    • "We owe it to Dodger fans to try to get a deal done, especially because of the historic nature of this year with it being [baseball announcer] Vin Scully's final season," Time Warner Cable spokesman Andrew Fegyveresi said.
    asshole
you've owed it to us for almost three years now
and vin could have walked at any time you fucken prick

The proposed offer is only for one year and who knows after that!

So Time Warner lowers the price and then immediately sends out a press release about it? Honestly? Fuck them. This is just more of them trying to use the media as a pawn piece to put pressure on their buyers. I don't care what the price is. They can raise it, lower it, convert it to Japanese yen... just get it done, and stop making us a part of it. Playing the "we're the good guys" card is bullshit at this point. Fuck off Time Warner.

Yeah and why the fuck should DirecTV bite for sentimental reasons? Time warner paid an idiotic price and set up a channel that outside of the Dodgers has very little to offer, and the price they're charging is of the higher end RSN's which carry multiple teams

"Cutting it by 30%" is good PR but shows just how bad the original price was

Really sucks, and trying to flip the PR to make the others look bad might blow up in their face cause I wouldn't be surprised to see DirectTV have a strong rebuttal

You called this one right and after reading this I consider TW to be pathetic and manipulative.
    http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dn-vin-scully-dodgers-tv-20160323-story.html

And what about the rights of those who aren't Dodger fans and don't want to pay to make those of us who might live in the LA area happy? This could backfire as Directv has a whole national audience to keep happy also.

Reading that article makes me cringe a little bit. Quotes like these:

“It’s a humbling feeling that they would even try because of me,” Scully said.

Dodgers President Stan Kasten saluted the TWC offer to lower the cost of the Dodgers’ channel. “We think it’s a wonderful gesture from Time Warner Cable, particularly out of respect for Vin Scully,” Kasten said. “It’s a big win for the fans and, frankly, a big win for the cable and satellite providers. There could be no better way to honor Vin in his final year than for them to quickly accept this offer and get the games on TV.”

C'mon guys, "doing this for Vin" is the farthest thing from TWC's mind. It's horseshit. Kasten knows TWC is insincere in their mention of Vin, so seeing him play along is just gross - but I guess he doesn't want to see TWC fail and rescind on part of the deal. And like you said TP, as far as we can tell this is a one year offer to lower the price, the other TV providers will be hesitant to jump on a one year deal knowing it's a trap, they would be bad guys all over again if they dropped the Dodgers after one season.

LA mayor, MLB commissioner pretend to care about Dodgers TV dispute
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — updated 14 minutes ago

PHOENIX -- With news of Time Warner Cable lowering its asking price for SportsNet LA on a one-year deal, a few in positions of power have decided to chime in with empty statements that make it look like they will have had a part in helping the Dodgers network get on the air for a majority of Los Angeles.

First was Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti, who issued a statement on Thursday morning:

"Dodgers fans across L.A. deserve to watch our team play - not just subscribers to one cable system, but everyone who bleeds Dodger blue. Over the last few years I have met with carriers and repeatedly called on them to end the unfortunate stalemate that has prevented Angelenos from seeing their beloved team. I am hopeful that we are close to breaking the deadlock and finally doing the right things for Dodgers fans. If nothing else, let's do it for Vin Scully."

Garcetti wasn't the only one to use Scully's name in their screed as the legendary announcer enters his 67th and final season calling Dodgers games. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred mentioned Vin as well in his statement:

"The distribution dispute involving DirecTV, AT&T, COX and Verizon has gone on too long. The Dodgers’ massive fan base deserves to be able to watch Dodger games regardless of their choice of provider. The situation is particularly acute given that this is Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully’s final season. Time Warner has made a significant economic move that I hope will be accepted by the providers."

The commissioner in the past has called the Dodgers network carriage dispute a local issue, even telling ESPN reporters in February 2015, "I have no role or leverage in terms of inducing anybody to do anything in that process."

Now that the heavy lifting if a shift in negotiations for SportsNet LA has been done, Manfred and Garcetti have the luxury of giving statements that make it look like they helped get the deal across the goal line. But we know better.

UPDATE: The Dodgers later Wednesday released a statement from CEO Stan Kasten as well. Guess what: he's in favor of the various hold out carriers to take Time Warner's offer:

"We think it's a wonderful gesture from Time Warner Cable, particularly out of respect for Vin Scully. It's a big win for the fans and, frankly, a big win for the cable and satellite providers. There could be no better way to honor Vin in his final year than for them to quickly accept this offer and get the games on TV."

Time Warner Sucks... and has sucked rotten flea bitten scum covered testicles for years.

That didn't help the situation but ... it felt good. Might as well.. :banghead:

So if I'm Direct TV or AT&T or whoever... then I'm thinking... "FUCK" Time Warner... ...from their view they wouldn't carry the channel if TWC PAID THEM... so we're screwed.

mlb.tv is looking better but I'm still pissed

Scully embarrassed to be at center of SportsNet LA negotiations
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 24 minutes ago

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Time Warner Cable put the squeeze play on against AT&T/DirecTV and other cable providers by slashing their asking price to carry SportsNet LA by 30 percent.

TWC spokesperson Andrew Fegyveresi explained the decision as one tied to 2016 being a “historic season” as it’s Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully’s 67th and final in the booth. “There could be no better way to honor Vin in his final year than for them to quickly accept this offer and get the games on TV,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a released statement.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred also invoked Scully’s name and forthcoming retirement as further reason to end the stalemate.

Scully, who has shrugged off attention and notoriety throughout his career, said there’s some unease over being the focal point but also attempted to find a silver lining, via Bill Shaikin of the LA Times:

“It’s really kind of embarrassing for me. If it will serve in any possible way to get the fans to see more games, that is the thing I would be rooting for.”

Also, from a parallel Blue universe somewhere out there:
At present time, SportsNet LA, the exclusive home of the Dodgers, is available to Bright House Networks, Charter Communications and TWC subscribers. Meanwhile, AT&T/DirecTV, Dish Network and Verizon FiOS remain among the industry’s largest holdouts.

The Dodgers signed the record 25-year, $8.35 billion exclusive rights holder agreement with TWC in January 2013. The network officially launched on Feb. 25, 2014 and has faced resistance in gaining more distribution in the years since.

Offer a paltry one year discount to John Q. Public and hope to sway him to bias everyone else.

I can see a scenario where a deal was never made. If this lasts 4 seasons or more, Time Warner may be better off taking a loss and selling the rights back to Prime Ticket. Or ditching the one team channel model and trying to acquire rights to other sports properties. The Clippers TV deal is up. No distributor is going to bite on a channel that features just one team. It's not happening. Or the Dodgers may have to renegotiate the deal if they want their games available. What a s*** show. Nobody saw this coming?? I thought since the Laker channel got picked up, the Dodger channel would make a deal too. I thought it would be the last of its kind because it's a ridiculous contract, though.

TWC SportsNet plus Deportes was roughly 5 dollars per month, per subscriber. High 4's. The Lakers went into the tank and viewership was down up to 70 percent throughout the season. So when the Dodgers came along with another Time Warner RSN, even more expensive...it wasn't going to happen...and won't happen. Bad timing. If the Dodger deal came before the Laker deal, they'd likely be on TV. I think.
