Seager is our future third baseman. There is NO way he should be traded for anyone. Just think back to how many years we struggled to find a long-term solution for that spot. Uribe has filled in admirably for a couple years, but we all know he's just keeping the position warm until Seager is ready. And since he's progressing nicely, that makes him even more untouchable. I don't ever want to go back to trading top prospects for Casey Blake as a type of stop-gap. Urias is going to be great - just have a really good feeling about him. He's going to be a young star in this league, and I don't want it to be for another team. They've handled him with kids gloves, so I want to see how that translates over the long run. Of the three, Peterson is probably the most expendable. He K's a lot, struggles against LHP at times, and supposedly doesn't have the strong arm for CF. But he's a mutli-tool player, and this team could benefit from getting younger next year. I'd still be against trading him, unless he's the key piece in a package that brings in a top tier pitcher who's here for more than two months. Ideally, I'd love to see them move Ethier (eating most of his contract, obviously), have an OF of Joc, Puig, Kemp next year, with Crawford and SVS off the bench. So my take is pass on all deals that ask for Seager or Urias, and probably pass on Joc as well.
I'd be OK with Price, but Lester could fuck up the chemistry of the team. He's clearly a "rent" for a couple of months... Don't like that at all... I would rather go with Ryu/Beckett, but if we can dump Kemp to get a starter, do it...
I'm actually more interested to see if we can move Crawford, Ethier, or Kemp in any deal. We need to clear out a roster spot as much as anything.
This is pretty much how I feel. Lester is a rental and not worth losing any of our top 3 prospects. Cole Hamels doesn't seem any better than Ryu to me. Yea he's done it a few years more but I don't think we've seen the best of Ryu just yet. That leaves Price. If the Rays will take Joc and Ethier plus cash I might do that. Might. I'm ok with passing on all of them though.
i so once dreamed up a scenario where i vindicated the honor of jeannie buss and jerry made me his bff gambling buddy that helped him choose FA and draft picks. but then i woke up and remembered he was already dead man the team was doing well too, kobe was playing point forward and i think Fisher was the coach.
If the Dodgers are reluctant trading Joc for Lester, then bring him the fuck up. Sick of Crawford starting.
yeah Dodgers are wasting time trying to squeeze blood from that turnip... just trying to get 'something' for their $20M per season
I'll make you a sig bet that Ethier ends up with a higher OPS, wOBA and wRC+ then Carl and high enough to offset any D/Speed Under assumption Ethier ever plays a baseball game again.
Last year, Dre's wRC+ was 120. Crawford has posted a number better than that once in his career... Which was his last year with the Rays. 2014 wRC+: Dre: 95 Carl: 80
At this point, its probably too late to expect Pederson to help us in any significant way. I know Puig came up guns blazing, but he's the exception more than the norm, even Trout took half a year to get his bat going. I'm not comfortable trading Kemp and leaving the trio of Crawford, Ethier, and a green Pederson for the other two OF spots. Even if Kemp hits just .275 the rest of the way, that's at least average production, leaving us with average and above average production at two of the OF positions. I'm ok with trading Ethier and Crawford because they're both deadweight anyway, but those guys will be more hard to move. frankly, my ideal OF right now for the playoffs is Puig, Kemp, and SVS. Either and Crawford are cockblocking that obviously, and if Kemp is moved, it's going to be double the mess
Kemp's hitting (wRC+) is 29% better than league average, ranking 18th among 50-something qualified outfielders.
