Do wonder what's next, hope they find even more ways to both add to team on MLB and minor league roster. It's really not as flashy but we saw this past year how important it is to be better suited for injuries and mid season trades
I can't see a Shields deal that won't leave me wishing we'd have just spent a little more for Scherzer. But we'll see.
I'm wondering what's next? In terms of the future after 2015. Especially with Rollins, Kendrick and Uribe all gone after this year, barring us extending one or two of them.
Scherzer pls I mean Hamels would be cool too, but seems like we aren't on that front anymore or maybe we are who knows
that's true. i guess let's hope the Marlins sign Peavy..they seem to always be our best trade partner.
so Mark Saxon said he's heard that Friedman LOVES Shields and of course Shields is a hometown guy for us..Saxon thinks Shields will happen before Hamels does. also heard that CC's not going anywhere..Friedman loves him..both from Houston and have the Tampa connection sort of growing up in the league together there. i'm still hoping for Scherzer. if you're gonna give up the draft pick and let Greinke go next year..cover for the Greinke loss, go big this year, let the defense play while we have it and let's shut bkitches down. and a deal for Clippard..that should be 1B on the list right now, only behind finding a deal for Ethier. if they have to send 30M with Ethier to move him and they give say 60M over 4yrs to Shields..that's " just " 15M over what they saved by moving Kemp. Shields adds to the clubhouse in a big way as well..been a big help with every staff he's been on ( no homo).
or maybe Romo's next as a set up option? if we don't go for Scherzer, i'd maybe like to see Scherzer end up with the Cubs and help take the Cards' heads off. that'd be crazy if the Cubs doubled up with Lester/Scherzer though.
Hey Chris...what's your take about the feeling by some of the "experts" on Shields is not who you want on the hill in the big game? Agree or not? And how about all the emphatic "Greinke is gone next year" is almost forcing the issue already...
Friedman may have said that we are adding another starter but if it Scherzer or Shields then we'll have 5 guys with contracts until 2019. Greinke opts out then we have a spot for another big name but then we're back to not having a spot for a young guy like Lee or Urias or Holmes and we still want to be younger according to our FO. So I think we'll probably stand pat with Kersh, Greinke, Ryu and McCarthy and let our other guys on the roster vie for the last spot. Next year IF Greinke opts out then we can revisit a big name. If a more experienced starter IS signed it's going to be a 1 year deal IMHO BUT I don't think we are signing or acquiring anyone else.
Oh, I'd rather have Scherzer but I have a feeling he'd cost a good chunk more. I think the Red Sox go after him
they can always move a guy to make room for Urias if it comes to that..it just means they can take their time with him. that's a good problem to have, though, so long as guys are performing well. like 120M or more Lol
No, I don't really agree with that. I have a problem with the whole "big game" thing anyway... all it takes for one good game to change someone's mind. What about when Shields pitched amazing in Sept? That's not clutch? Same thing with Kershaw and his clinching game vs. Gnats Grienke, assuming health, will likely opt either to restructure his contract or just test the open market. It's just a 99% chance he does but not sure how much he really wants to leave
I think we gotta see what our payroll number is at before we know who is next. I think it's already over 200 mil Maybe they shed some with Ethier leaving but I doubt it's much
trade Ethier for a #2 pencil. the fact that he thinks he can start everyday is unreal. he hasn't hit a left hander since Tupac died
