I gotta be honest, I'm glad we didn't get Ohtani. He sounds high-maintenance.

Not at all.... He gets the proximity to LA for the Japanese community and the endorsement deals that will pay him real money, the DH to hit, less pressure and Newport Beach to call home.

Angels were .500 without him and only had Justin Upton for like a month.

FWIW Chris Camello (you probably forgot about this guy but he broke JT and Kenley re-signing last year) tweeted yesterday that the Dodgers are pushing hard for Stanton.

Holy shit, well they got their answer. Yankees, Cubs and Astros suddenly being named to me is nothing more than a last ditch effort by the Marlins to make something happen with the Dodgers. Yankees would want the Marlins to take back a worse contract than anything we have to offer, the Cubs are already saddled with a huge contract for a RF'er that is not helping them and the Astros just won the WS with a full OF and no place to really put him.

I agree, I don't see how Puig would make sense for the Marlins unless they plan to flip him. Only thing is I would not want him on a terrible team while trying to build up trade value for him. I'd worry that he could check out.

I wish nothing but the best for Ohtani, but all that happened in the last 3 or so weeks is the Angels went from the second best team in the AL West to the 3rd best team in the AL West. They need a lot more than just Ohtani and if they really are allowing him to play everyday, they're going to need some other pieces around him, Trout and Upton.

    Too many injury issues:
Trout was hurt last year limiting him to 100ish games, I assume he will be healthy this year.
Pujols only had 23 AB while playing 1b last year. With Ohtoni in the fold Pujols is going to play 1b more often. His #'s are already on the decline as referenced by 23 hr and 241ba last year.
The entire pitching staff in a HUGE question mark, even Ohtoni. All of their starters missed time last year due to injury and Ohtoni is still yet unproven.

Again even with Ohtoni and a full year of Upton they won't get anywhere close to the division title and will be lucky to be at 500

Pujols was the worst player in baseball last year

    https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.a...am=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=21,a

I’ve always taken an issue with the idea that a player can contribute 3-4 wins on defense so I have a lesser view of Simmons than most.

They had one starter provide more than a win last year and it was Petit who’s on the A’s now. They need one more middle of the rotation arm and at least something at 3B to have any chance. If they got Cobb and Moustakas I could see them grabbing a WC. But that’d be a hell of an off-season.

If that's the case, just how much contract can we get the Marlins to eat? And would we even have to give them a Verdugo type prospect if they have no options other than keeping Stanton?

I’m sure we’d have to give something valuable to get him. Yeah they’re in a shitty spot but at the end of the day they’re not forced to trade him.

But I mean I’d give up Verdugo for 10 years of Stanton no question.

#SFGiants also announce they are out on Stanton.

Old-ish news but worth noting that the Cards and Giants have both been officially rejected and are backing out. The only verified competition for Stanton's services are no longer pursuing him. The Yankees and Cubs talk is speculative and likely BS.

He's our guy to lose. Will be fascinating to see what happens. This FO is always creative.

Summary: #Dodgers and #Marlins have discussed Giancarlo Stanton trade scenarios this offseason. The Dodgers always have been interested — at the right price. Reduction in demand (Giants, Cardinals out) increases chances of that price point being met. @MLB @MLBNetwork
