During a press conference late Wednesday night, Friedman mentioned what the Dodgers next move could be: I mean I think it’s certainly possible that we will add two starting pitchers and whether it’s through the trade front or the free agent market I’m not sure yet, but I think it’s safe to assume that we’re going to try to add two starters.” so we've since added mccarthy who's the other... shields? max? hamels? someone else?
looks like santana is off the market... Twins To Sign Ervin Santana By Jeff Todd [December 11, 2014 at 12:59pm CST] 1:00pm: It is a done deal, according to reports from LaVell A. Neall III of the Star Tribune (via Twitter) and Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (Twitter link). 12:59pm: The Twins are nearing a four-year, approximately $54MM deal with free agent starter Ervin Santana, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports (Twitter links). The pact would include a fifth-year vesting option based on innings pitched.
Pitchers are disappearing and we need 1 more. Shields, Scherzer, and Kuroda seem to be the best available and it doesn't sound like Hamels is happening. Shields is a local boy, so if we make a good enough offer, I think he is ours.
I highly doubt that the Tigers let Max go anywhere; they will get him. Kuroda is retired. That leaves Shields.
Dombrowski already said they were out on Scherzer. That ship has sailed. I think Kuroda pitches 1 more years. Scherzer, I'm thinking either Analheim, Boston, or NYY, maybe Washington if they dump Zimmerman.
well if you look at it all, Hamels is about to turn 31 and is under contract for 4 more years with an option for an extra year that'll take him through his age 35 season. Dodgers would probably pick up that age 35 year, so 110M left on his deal. this next season will be Scherzer's age 30 season and he'll likely command a 6yr deal that'll take him through his age 35 season. and then Shields' work load has been crazy ( as has Hamels', tbh) and he's 33yrs old and has shown chinks in the armor late in the season. so if you weigh the work load on these arms, the fact that prospects will have to be moved for Hamels, the fact that a QO is attached to Scherzer..i'm gonna go against my belief and say that our FO gives up 1 of our top draft picks to sign Scherzer and keeps Joc/Seager/Urias. Scherzer's arm/health has been solid, his stuff is arguably better than Hamels' + we could use a top end righty to balance an already lefty heavy rotation that's gonna add Urias at some point ( and a righty to replace Greinke after he leaves..because if Greinke opts out at age 32..he gone). plus, i think 1 three day deal with Amaro to get Jimmy fuckin Rollins is enough. so i'm goin with Scherzer - 6yrs/180M..granted, haggling with Boras is arguably worse than working with Amaro, but yea.
take a couple of those prospects that they'd send for Hamels..the lower end specs..and instead send them to DC for Clippard. we need a bonafide set up man.
