?

If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

Heyman reporting that the Dodgers could have added Yusniel Diaz to a Machado deal. If that is the case, that would be incredibly hard to beat and a wise move by the FO. Diaz is good, but he is blocked currently and a notch less talented than Verdugo.

One thing about potential dodgers Machado deal: they are determined to stay below luxury tax threshold, so they may need to balance the $. Could include high-priced vet to do it.
    ---------------
Logan Forsythe anyone? Would save ~$4M against the tax, while bringing in $6-6.5M for Machado (pro-rated $16M).

Orioles probably don’t see it this way but getting Logan isn’t a bad deal for them. He’s honestly due for a hot streak, and then they can try and flip him through waivers to a team in August

Cautiously optimistic... Yusniel looks exciting as hell but, he’s a corner outfielder which is the easiest to replace and ... it’s Manny fucking Machado

Have to think if they were to take back some money, then it has to be Diaz & May/Ruiz (I would honestly prefer Ruiz due to the emergence of Smith) and a 3rd lesser piece, likely an arm with upside (White?).

Sources: top OF prospect yusniel diaz is indeed in the Dodgers’ Machado offer currently on table
    ---------------
This is by no means done, but if it should get done, it would create an interesting situation as the lineup would be super RH.

I am going to assume Forsythe is part of the deal.

    C - Grandal (S)
    1B - Muncy (L)
    2B - Taylor (R)
    3B - Turner (R)
    SS - Machado (R)
    LF - Kemp (R) / Joc (L)
    CF - Bellinger (L)
    RF - Kiké (R)

    Definitely odd.

I was thinking the same thing. "Fix him" and then trade him for a live arm in A ball

Not if Diaz has truly found that power groove he showed in the futures game. That would make him as good a prospect as Verdugo probably.

IDK about that, recent years suggest a top 100 prospect alone is a hefty price for a rental. Would think that Diaz(prob a top 50 spect now) is the centerpiece and would be paired with some of our lesser arms in the system. When it comes to the O's, gotta look at guys with those clean medical records too. White would not fit that bill(nor does Diaz really, but whatever).

If we end up landing him we’re gonna have to put Mannywood 2.0 out in right center where he hits all his homers instead of down the line in left.

I hope you're right, but we aren't talking about just any rental, we're talking about a Top 20 player that is entering the prime of his career having just turned 26. But hey, I hope you're right and the ask is Diaz, Lux, and (insert 3rd tier guy here).

Ehhhh.... we are literally talking about one game where he hit two bombs. He is still averaging a HR every 10 games in AA while Verdugo is getting one every 8 at AAA at roughly the same age. They are very similar players with the bat and similar skills in the OF, but I prefer the guy with the ++ arm for the corner.

Well, it is always good to deal from surplus. Diaz is buried in the depth chart. Not only is he behind Verdugo but Toles as well. With the addition of Manny we fill holes, but next year might be a problem. I am assuming MGT would like to lock Manny up which creates and even bigger OF jam. Manny is going to want to play SS....so what do we do with Seager? Move him to 3b, Turner to 1b and Bellinger to CF. You and I both know with the year that Kemp is having now, MGT keeps him on the roster. Puig is still way affordable and producing so he stays.......you see where I am coming from. If getting Manny means dealing Diaz.....I do it in a heart beat.

LAD definitely needs Machado now, but especially moving forward beyond this season. I know the big deal is " rental ", but if getting him now can help them gain favor in FA, even better. Obviously, can't just trust that Seager will regain form at SS. And short view, the team coming out like turds the first 50-60 games of the season, that doesn't exactly scream " go trade for Machado " to me anyway. Even if he does make less money and is easier to fit in than Stanton would've been. And then having to deal with Angelos on top of all that? For all this trouble, this has to be a long term play. Otherwise, it just wouldn't be worth it. Not when Kershaw is just gonna choke in the post again anyway. They may as well make a play for Degrom as well and try to replace Kershaw at ace for the next few seasons.

Jacob DeGrom is the same age as Clayton Kershaw
Not that it has anything to do with what you said, just thought I would throw that out there

I actually think the team has their Kershaw replacement already in the house. Behuler and Stripling could turn out to be a very solid 1-2, and that doesn't count Urias who MGT is being really cautious with next years starting rotation could be Kershaw/Hill/Behuler/Striping/Urias

As soon as Blue Max crapped out in the second round, I went to look for Sacha Baron Cohen's new show.
    No interest beyond Max.
But truly, a victory by knocking him out.
    Superb.

Yeah I get that. Obviously, the career arcs are very different. I'm just saying, they can't afford to just get Machado here and not go all on for an ace replacement as well
