Not taking the bait that we might actually get Harper but I’d think you have to trade one of Verdugo, Muncy or Joc if you get Bryce right?

Most likely with Kershaw shoulder issues. I would not be surprised if we acquire another pitcher once the results of spring training are concluded

Starting to get the feeling that they're going to break big Harper/LAD signing news and then slide the terrible news that Kersh is out for the season in behind it. The old misdirection. It they then dealt Verdugo and/or Muncy for Kluber, they will have sandwiched the Kersh tragedy quite well. Kasten felt just like politician at that infamous presser weeks back.

I suspect the Tribe would want those guys since Joc is closest to his payday. Which is OK. Joc rises in the post and Belli's offensive numbers are just better when he plays 1B for whatever reason, so doing away with Muncy makes sense. Think they could still find enough use for Mr. Freese given that they want to protect Pollock, roll Belli out into CF on occasion and open up 1B..JT will need his days off as well and Freese can do his 3B thing.

BREAKING: Third baseman Nolan Arenado and the Colorado Rockies are finalizing an eight-year, contract extension worth more than $255M, league sources tell ESPN. Deal includes an opt-out after three years, would give Arenado the largest per-year salary of any position player.
    ------------------
So now Harper will have to have a $32M AAV.

The potential Kershaw news actually doesn’t bother me too much. Deep down I wasn’t really expecting much. The only lame part is that it is on the heels of an unnecessary one-year extension to his contract.

I’m not sure how serious the Indians are in trading Kluber, but even without Kershaw I see Kluber as a luxury if we got him. We have a lot of young talent at pitching and can roll just fine without Kersh or Kluber to start the season.

This might be the news the Dodgers needed to finally push all the chips in on Harper.

Well, Arenado lied. He is not tired of losing.

Well if they get Harper they'll have to move some things around, so it'd make sense to go on the attack for Kluber asap with those pieces everyone keeps mentioning.
If they don't get Harper, like you said, some young arms to start the season, but then heavy trade deadline activity again..never know who could be out there..with Stras' opt out looming, Kasten may be looking at another opp to grab another of his guys from DC.
Kersh would be #2 or #3 caliber come the postseason, so yeah, it shouldn't be that hard to replace him, but that wasted money is still a downer

Quarter B in the bank ain't losing and everyone wins. They get Arenado back and we don't have to endure another strokefest while prices increase again out at the ballpark next year....

I am not a Harper fan but with Arenado agreeing to an ext that does seem to put some urgency into signing an impact bat. Would be nice to see the Harper signing then a trade of Verdugo/Smith/Santana for Kluber. That would free up a spot in the OF with Harper/Bellinger/Pollock with Taylor and Joc on the bench. The SP would then be Kluber/Behuler/Kershaw/Maeda/Hill, leaving Ryu/Stripling/Stewart as back up. It sucks to have Ryu without a position but this team always has injuries so Ryu would fill in for Kershaw and Strip/Stew would fill in for Hill......DONE. Sadly we all know nothing close to this will happen.......UGH.

Bryant was whining about a month ago, but he's loving these numbers. I wonder how much of a fuck the Phils would really give if Harp didn't land. They'll have to fuck up in major fashion to not pull Trout out of Halo hell

Don't think they'd do that to Joc. There are teams out there that have interest in him. Benching him would pull his numbers down and maybe his value as well

    Trade Joc.

Unless we are filling a need in trading Verdugo, why wouldn't we want a young contact hitter who can play every day?

    Verdugo RF
    Turner 3B
    Seager SS
    Harper LF
    Pollock CF
    Bellinger 1B
    Muncy 2B
    Shit Show C

I know we arent getting Harper though

What I was seeing could certainly have been wrong or misleading, but teams do favors for agents all of the time and it is no secret in the industry. The same goes for the media with agents/teams. It may not mean necessarily a better deal for a player, but there are reasons why some agents do more work with other franchises than others do. The agent may be more open to teams that do them favors or could swing back around with one final "beat it" offer for a FA. The Dodgers certainly may need that with Boras in the seasons to come and with some rivals kicking around, they may be willing to play the part to make the Giants or even the Padres and Phillies up their offers. I hope this is not just for show as I think Harper changes the whole dynamic of the club and would love to see us come out on top.

I was thinking maybe even two of the above, but honestly the Toles thing fucks shit up a bit in the reserve OF department.
