griff and hoffman get in no one else 2016 BBWAA Hall of Fame Ballot Associated Press — 2 hours ago With a timeless swing and grace in the outfield that reminded fans of past icons, Ken Griffey Jr. was seen as one of the preeminent players of his era. Now, the player known formerly as “The Kid” is on the cusp of earning the same title belonging to many of the legends he was compared to: Hall of Famer. Griffey leads 15 new additions to the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot in 2016 for consideration of the game’s ultimate honor. The new candidates will join 17 former players who remain eligible after receiving at least five percent of votes last year, making a total of 32 players on this year’s ballot. The results of the voting will be announced on Jan. 6. First-time candidates on the ballot include 13-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove Award winner and 1997 American League Most Valuable Player Ken Griffey Jr., seven-time All-Star closer and owner of 601 saves Trevor Hoffman and eight-time Gold Glove Award-winner Jim Edmonds. Other first-time candidates include Garret Anderson, Brad Ausmus, Luis Castillo, David Eckstein, Troy Glaus, Mark Grudzielanek, Mike Hampton, Jason Kendall, Mike Lowell, Mike Sweeney, Billy Wagner and Randy Winn. In 2015, the BBWAA elected Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz – the first time in 60 years that baseball writers elected four candidates in one year.
It will be nice to see Griffey get his due. A truly iconic, hall worthy player of his era. But the hall can go fuck itself with the self-righteous snub to outed steroid users. Good job not voting in outed steroid users, but last year bringing in 4 steroid users who are just better at lying, and again this year putting more lying 'roiders on the ballot. In all honesty, if there is a player from the steroid era who doesn't fit the mold, it was Griffey - the guy battled so many more injuries than the average roider. But I'm tired of this fucking guessing game. And a closer on the ballot? LOLz even if it is Hoffman. I don't care if it's Hoffman, Rivera, or any of these other over-hyped primadonnas - no one ever bought a ticket on the off chance they could see Trevor Hoffman pitch one inning. /rant
and fuck that pole smoking closet finook piazza go in as a met [if/when you get in] bkitch one of the worst defensive catchers ever 7 Dodgers on 2016 Hall of Fame ballot by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — November 9, 2015 A trio of former Dodgers are among 15 new players on the 2016 Baseball Writers Association of America Hall of Fame ballot that was announced on Monday. Another former Dodger, Mike Piazza, is the top returning player and could be elected to Cooperstown as early as next year. Garret Anderson, Brad Ausmus and Mark Grudzielanek are the three former Dodgers in their first time on the ballot, though the trio played just a combined 455 games and six seasons in Los Angeles. The headlining newcomer on the ballot is Ken Griffey Jr., with closer Trevor Hoffman and outfielder Jim Edmonds among other newcomers on the ballot. Piazza got 69.9 percent of the vote last year, his fourth year on the ballot, and figures to make it either this year or next year. Nobody who has received as high as 69.9 percent has failed to eventually reach the 75 percent required for induction. The person to get the closest in that regard was Jack Morris, who received 67.7 percent in 2013 but only had one more year left on the ballot. Other former Dodgers returnees on the ballot include Nomar Garciaparra (second year, 5.5 percent in 2015), Jeff Kent (third year, 14.0 percent last year) and Gary Sheffield (second year, 11.7 percent last year), giving the Dodgers seven of the 32 total players on the ballot. The BBWAA says approximately 475 ballots were mailed out this week, trimmed down from several long-inactive members voting in recent years. In 2015, for instance, 549 ballots were submitted. The voting results will be announced on Tuesday, January 6, at 3 p.m. PT on MLB Network. Induction ceremonies will take place on Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Cooperstown.
Brad Ausmus and Mark Grudzielanek how do losers like this even get nominated?? Ausmus?? Really?? Are you fucking kidding me?
It isn't a nomination process. You are automatically eligible for the ballot, five years after you retire.
I can't find any record of Piazza ever playing for the Pole Smoking Closet Finook's. What were their colors?:yoda:
Jr gets in first ballot. Piazza squeaks by. And that is it. Rivera will beat Hoffman into the Hall when he becomes eligible in 18
