Frankie Lindor heading for free agency like
syndergaard right behind him
Peter Gammons just tweeted that someone he talked to told him that the Dodgers are going to re-sign Justin Turner while also bringing in Marcus Semien. That would be a hell of an addition if he could go back to the way he was in 2019.
The Blue Jays and Kirby Yates have agreed to a deal.
The Blue Jays and George Springer are said to have had productive talks in recent days and may be inching towards a deal. Players are said to be very hesitant to sign with the Jays due questions on where the club will call home in 2021.
After floating some of their young controllable talent in trade talks. The Reds are rumored to now be telling teams that they are done with trade discussions this off-season and feel they have a club that is good enough to win the division. This would impact the Dodgers as they were rumored to be one of the teams in on Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez.
If you missed it, LHP Jon Lester has signed a one year deal with the Nats.
There is growing pessimism again that we are not going to have a full 162 game season. The union and owners are said to still be haggling over some issues, which is why only a couple of teams have set report dates for spring training.
Don Sutton has passed away
Wow...Don Sutton. It didn't take too much into 2021 for the shit to start right back in again, did it ?
Even better that Semien has been able to handle SS pretty damn well. Need cover for Seager in case injuries strike again. And Semien has an .812 career OPS VS LHP. Looks to be decent against 93-95 MPH, but anything above that and he's sapped....
....except for these career postseason numbers: 4 series, .371/.450/.571
Guy has a career 1.021 OPS in the postseason. Don't mind if we do. Hell, can he play OF and bump Pollock's bum ass?
Man, Semien is such a weird case. He has a couple of seasons where mixing in his production with our lineup would be solid, a number of other ones that would be not great and one if he could replicate, we would be saying "Mookie who?" Not really, but man if he could turn back into that 2019 guy and holding down 2B or 3B, that would be fan-fucking tastic. I have a feeling that our staff sees something they could fix and feel he could be had for a steal.
I do not believe in MS. 2019 was an insane spike in EVERY metric. We've seen this shit before and there isn't enough toilet paper to clean it.
Turner and Semien? It makes me think the Dodgers believe there will be a DH, or the price on Semien has fallen far enough that they don't mind adding a veteran that can handle 2B in case Lux gets off to a slow start. In his career, Semien has OPS'd almost .100 points higher vs LHP, so that could be attractive as well. I'm down. I mean, I'd rather sign Turner and Ozuna, but that's a much different price range.
Q: What's long hard and has Seimen in it?
A: The Dodgers lineup!
I'd rather have Ozuna and Rios. Unless Turner signs for 2/25 that is.
Going to be a lot of empty chairs behind the podium at the next HOF induction (whenever that is).
Tough year for the former greats of the game.
Jays close to deal with George Springer
I generally agree, but man that’s a hell of season where you have to think there’s potentially something more there. No, he’s probably not the 9 WAR guy he was, but they could see something where they think they can get him around 4 while maybe not paying for it. He’s got some serious upside, but he definitely comes with heavy risk.
Sutton was a solid pitcher. Later, #20...
whenever i went to a game as a kid it seemed like either he or claude osteen started
Good. Let Houston baseball slowly die
Well well well.... off-season may finally be starting. We have George Springer to the Jays and a vomiting of other rumors start coming out:
Now that the Jays have signed Springer, they’re said to be closing in on a deal for another Astros OF’er, Michael Brantley. He’s represented by the same agent and word is that they discussed an NBA like group deal.
Jose Quintana signed a 1 year deal with the Angels.
Kikè Hernandez was supposedly close to a deal with the Mets, but the GM situation now has him in limbo.
Nightengale says that the Giants and Angels appear to be most realistic landing spots for Trevor Bauer.
