    (sigh)

I told ya, we're not going the big FA route. You need to get used to that idea.

    awesome
and yeah, codge, i realize we're probably not going to open up our wallets this offseason
just sucks to have to sit back and watch others get involved while we prepare for the future
as for that future, as eugene o'neill once said...

Jon Lester, Giants set to meet
    ESPN.com news services | 2 minutes ago

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants are turning their attention to Jon Lester following Pablo Sandoval's departure.

The free-agent pitcher has plans to meet with the World Series champions next week, a source told ESPN's Jim Bowden.

San Francisco has need for a front-line starting pitcher and was expected to get busy in the free-agent market after losing the slugging third baseman to the Boston Red Sox. Lester would join World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner to give the Giants two top left-handers at the top of their rotation.

Lester, who turns 31 in January, was dealt by the Red Sox to the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline in July and helped the A's reach the playoffs for the third straight year before a 9-8, 12-inning loss to Kansas City in the AL wild-card game.

Oakland general manager Billy Beane said after the season he didn't think his club would have made it that far without the addition of Lester, who was 6-4 with a 2.35 ERA in 11 starts and 76 2/3 innings with the A's. He was 16-11 overall with a 2.46 ERA in 32 starts and a career-high 219 2/3 innings.

Giants right-hander Matt Cain is recovering from elbow surgery that ended his season in July and right-hander Ryan Vogelsong is a free agent. Manager Bruce Bochy has said two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, who played a minimal role this past postseason, will begin the 2015 season in the rotation. Tim Hudson, a 39-year-old righty signed through '15, rounds out the current starting staff.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

talk about one tough trade market for outfielders..it looks like Boston has more outfielders to rid themselves of than the Dodgers do. and then there's Upton, Nelson Cruz, CarGo, Hunter, Moss, Reddick and Tomas out there..now Jay Bruce. hell, even Aoki and Swisher would be intriguing additions for teams.

in order to clear up the outfield picture, Friedman may have to deal Kemp just to actually get a deal done. there are so many options out there, it's crazy. Kemp may end up being the only LAD OF ( that's available) that can garner enough interest at the end of the day. Heyman had a point.

so be it. hopefully they try like hell to put Ethier or CC in potential deals with Kemp though.

Leave it to the goddamn Giants to do something like this....they lost Obesito, so this would be a huge lift for their morale and for the fans to fill the substantial void left by Panda, literally and figurativly. Filthy scums.
    Say it ain't so, Joe.

6yrs/68M..that's worrying. not because he won't be worth it, but because rumors had him maybe gettin close to 100M. gotta wonder how much teams really liked him.

DBacks have some right handed thunder now though between Goldshit, Trumbo ( potentially), and Tomas ( potentially).

The stories I have read about Tomas is that he won't be better than Abreu and Yasie but who knows. Either way even with this guy the D-Backs will have PLENTY of question marks and I'm betting they won't be relevant for at least 2 years.

Yeah I would be way more threatened if the Padres or Giants got him then the DBacks. The Dbacks still have a shit rotation and their offense has some potential but still unreliable

that must be the overall thought on his talent because international salaries have been rising like crazy and he obviously got less than Castillo.

Tomas to AZ sucks, but still don't consider them a threat in the West.
