He sucks. I have said that since he was a minor leaguer. I've been consistent with it for a long time. He's just not that good. PLain and simple

If he can't lead off he can't be on the team. The only talent he has is speed.

I despise throwing away wins...of course these will come back to bite us because we didn't have a real closer. It sucks.

Horrid umpiring and no offense plus Guerra's new found ways to serve fastballs will always equal a loss.

I am starting to believe that umpires will squeeze us all year because of DBBs calling out that ump in the press conference.

Also, PHing Uribe for Lilly was fucking moronic. My two year old saw that outcome.

was thinking the same thing at the time
ted was breezing, and only 79 pitches
he earned the right to stay in there
    should be 3-0 right now

@dylanohernandez: Don Mattingly said Javy Guerra will remain the #Dodgers' closer.

    LOL.

Anybody hear Kennedy's thoughts on how the BP should be used? Heard it on the way home from school. Good stuff.

I'm gonna paraphrase (badly), but he said how Mattingly needs to change the way he handles his pitchers. He said he doesn't like labeling the guys as "closer" and "set-up", saying Mattingley should do what LaRussa did last year and make it closer-by-committee kind of thing, even though Mott was obviously the closer. Not worry too much about having to put Jansen and Guerra in the 8th and 9th. He kept saying how, outside of games Kershaw pitches, Doonie's too into a groove when it comes to the 7th, 8th and 9th, sending his bullpen in whether the rest of the rotation (Lily, Cap, harrang) are doing well. If you can find it on the AM 570 website (I think they do podcasts) he explains it much better.

    thanks mza, good stuff
and that 'groove' was seen tonight when he took lilly out after 7 -- despite the fact he was breezing and had thrown only 79 pitches
sometimes the "book" isn't always right...

Agree, Mattingly needs to handle the pitching different.
    • NEVER take a starter out if he has another inning left in him. I don't care what the score or the situation.
    • Close by committee. Let relievers go 2 innings if they are cruising.
I honestly could give two shits about who "closes" because if Guerra pulled that shit in the 7th or 8th we still lose. But I always say, the less guys you trot out to the mound the less likely one will have an off day.

And DBB leaving in Javy after he was getting hammered, and hit in the head - then gives up three more base hits/runs in a row deserves a big DOTD. If a guy is having a bad night, you must bring the quick hook and save the game.

In Mattingley's defense, Javy getting hammered is a typical night for him.

DOTD goes to AJ Ellis. Where the fuck was he when we needed a triple play?
