Man, very sorry to hear about your dad bro.

yeah this novel shit is uncharted.
and it affects everyone differently. It’s just amazing to me.
I have friends/ family that have been tested positive with zero symptoms
Others who have had mild symptoms
While others severe and been in ICU survived and some who have passed.
Patients who have passed who have pre existing health conditions etc.
Hard to put your finger on this thing. There’s no book on it... the book is being written NOW
The problem is the stories everyone hear are about it not doing shit but take their taste or smell... or being asymptotic.
This gives false hope and makes people think it’s not real.

Colleague of mine who’s in his 50’s , diabetic but otherwise healthy, nearly died. Hospitalized for 3 weeks, missed 2 months of work but thankfully beat it. Big part of this story is he had to endure some bullshit to get treated. gets picked up by an ambulance from home, sent to local hospital which turned him away because they were full so ambulance goes to the next closest hospital and they make them wait in the parking lot for 7 hrs before they could unload him and get him into the ER. What a fucking shit show.!

my wife who’s been an RN for 20 years and hasn’t worked bed side for 10 years has been called into work night shift nursing COVID patients and has been doing this for months.!

my own employees calling me each week to tell me they or family have tested positive. Or they need bereavement leave because their sister died.

the stories I hear...Morbid for sure and maybe not well received here because politics.

    But I’ll say this ...

    shits real homies.

    Stay safe bkitches

    Condolences Rube

just for the record i don't know anyone who is denying it exists
also not pretending it wasn't leveraged for political advantage
my heart goes out to anyone and everyone dealing w this
they are still currently treating it w a one size fits all attitude
seems like there must be some genetic predisposition to the severity
the fact remains 99% of us are finding the other side of this
bless your wife btw and strength to my DSP brothers

My condolences, Rube. The method that you describe in which he got it must be maddening. Sadly, I'm hearing more and more accounts similar to his.

My dad would never survive if he's exposed. We're doing everything we can to keep it away from him. Praying that this vax will protect him sufficiently. One shot down, one to go in about three weeks.

Sorry for your loss Rube. I have an employee that lost 3 of his older brothers in the span of 30 days to Covid. He had it as well but got through
The nightmare continues as he and his family have to wait 30+ days to have services for each brother due to the backup of deaths
    No closure at all. Sucks...

    Appreciate you asking.

My isolation period ended Tues. Taste and smell are slowing coming back.

Wife's isolation ends tomorrow. She's without smell and taste, too, but no other symptoms.

We dodged the worst of it.

From what I've heard (and you may have heard differently) once you've had it you might test positive for about a month afterwards even if your symptoms have disappeared.

    is that right?
we were told 3-4% would certainly die
now its .03ish and people want to inject me for a virus that is turning out to be the equivalent of the annual flu
i'll stop short of saying what i actually feel here but most of those anti vaxxers are liberals anyway so eat your own

What does anti vaxers being liberals have to do with anything? Dumb is dumb. But I was talking about those protesting trying to talk other people out of getting vaccines, that’s another level.

Can you help me with your math? .03%? By my math 0.14% of the entire US population just died in a year. Not of those who got COVID, but of the entire population, so the mortality rate is significantly higher than that. I now know 2 people personally who have died from it. Is my math wrong or something?

no one is saying it wasn't deadly but a lot of people are questioning why exactly it is that we are required to inject a poison concoction into our arms for something over 99% survivable
i don't try to dissuade anyone from not getting it but i don't want it
all the teachers in my school, my mom, my family they're getting it and i get more people insisting i'm not making the right decision while they're vindicated
my heart goes out to anyone that loses friend or family to any disease or life event that takes place
and yet no one knows for sure the math since its obvious that the numbers are being fucked with like in NYC for example
this feels like invasion of the body snatchers or some sci fi scenario based on fear
i had it, my daughter had it in NOV but she's told that's impossible and yet i took care of her for two weeks while drs. said they had no idea what it was
i have at least 10 friends in the medical field and 8 of them say they aren't overcrowded at all since the pandemic began
but doctors that state anything opposite now run risking the end of their careers by saying anything other than accepted "facts" about it
i had two friends and my mom go into the ER in the last 8 months and another friend just broke his collar bone and had surgery
none of them saw the panic and overcrowding we hear about everyday
in fact the guy who broke his collarbone flying off a one wheel went in to Kaiser, was diagnosed and had surgery the following day and he's out
and at 98 the admitting dr. pronounced my mom was dead on admittance w covid and was completely wrong in his diagnosis
i'll be sure to thank him for that 4 day experience of thinking of my mom dying alone and having her body thrown in a pile to be burned later
all i know for sure is that when it comes to math and numbers i'm being lied to and a lot of this was leveraged for political reasons
i'm not dismissing one death that China is clearly responsible for and think everyone's attention should be focused there but it won't be
Cuomo and others should go to jail for murdering their own citizens and then lying about the numbers but he won't be
I would never join a group protesting people who wanted the vaccine, in fact i applaud it if thats what they want
never been big on "groups" anyway and DSP might be one of the larger ones i ever belonged to
if not wanting to get stuck makes me stupid in your eyes i'm fine w it

For me I'm not so much worried about getting COVID as I am worried about spreading COVID to family members who are high-risk. That's my motivation. I'm fairly pro-vax all around, so I'd say you're making the wrong decision, but it sounds like you get enough of that. Since you've had COVID you basically have gotten the first dose anyway. I've been bashing anti-vaxers for over a decade now, so I'm not going to stop doing that.

The big takeaway is that your mom is 98 with attitude. That's awesome, we should all be so lucky. You got some good genes there, Diablo.

I think anti-vaxxers are generally not well informed. (I'm being nice today)

But I think people should be free not to take vaccines. I'm violently opposed to mandatory vaccines for anything. Annoying that we're pretty much there with public schools.

I'm a capitalist at my core, so politically, I'm definitely right of center, and I'm skeptical with much of what is fed to us. But I've got to agree with BlueMouse when it comes to putting my elderly parents' life at risk with this thing (even if there's a chance that's just the result of me drinking the cool-aid). My dad is in pretty bad health, not due to any lifestyle choices but more of getting dealt a poor hand late in life with Parkinson's and other maladies (or could be due to crappy drinking water when he served in the military, but who knows?). In any event, despite some success stories I've heard lately of elderly coming down with this and making it out fine on the other side (diablo's mom included), if I were to pass the virus to my parents, that's something I'd carry with me the rest of my life. Not taking that chance. I'm all for everyone having a choice, and I won't judge either decision. But for the sake of my parents, I'm getting the shot.
