By Tom Hoffarth, Los Angeles Daily News Posted:09/26/13, 10:20 PM PDT This should be the prime weekend for Prime Ticket to crank up its Dodgers coverage and chronicle the team as it navigates through the final homestand of the regular season and induces playoff momentum. But as for doing any special Dodgers pre- and post-game wrap around shows during TBS’ exclusive NLDS coverage that will begin Oct. 3, that’s all off the table. Prime Ticket would only offer up in a statement: “We’ll be getting ready for our TV coverage of the Kings, Ducks and Clippers, but we wish the Dodgers the best of luck in the playoffs.” Thanks for the memories, but the business relationship has ended. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No surprise. PrimeTicket sucks but it will suck even more not having any local pre-post coverage during a potential historical run. Fox pulls plug on Dodgers' pregame and postgame playoff coverage Comments 8 Email Share 45 By Bill Shaikin September 24, 2013, 1:36 p.m. As Los Angeles gears up for the Dodgers’ first playoff appearance in four years, Fox Sports has decided to end its game-day programs when the regular season ends Sunday. The Dodgers are moving their broadcasts to Time Warner Cable next season. Major League Baseball has approved the TWC deal, which is valued at $8.5 billion, pending delivery of final documentation, according to a person familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it. Baseball’s postseason games all air on national television outlets, so Fox’s Prime Ticket would not be able to carry any Dodgers games. Still, Prime Ticket could – and normally would – air pregame and postgame shows. The decision not to do so is strictly business, according to a person familiar with Fox’s strategy but not authorized to discuss it. It would be difficult to defray production costs for pregame and postgame shows based on ad sales, the person said, because many advertisers want a package that includes commercials during the game. Under normal circumstances, Fox would air pregame and postgame shows even at a financial loss, generating interest in the team and perhaps selling ad packages that included commercials during games the following season. However, Prime Ticket is not airing the Dodgers games next season. Fox declined to comment beyond this statement: “We’ll be getting ready for our TV coverage of the Kings, Ducks, and Clippers, but we wish the Dodgers the best of luck in the playoffs.” The Dodgers declined to comment. Under the TWC deal, the Dodgers will launch a channel – called SportsNet LA – with expanded pregame and postgame shows as well as team-related programming throughout the day. The Dodgers are expected to unveil programming details during the off-season.
In a season where they had some of the highest ratings ever on dodgers games, they don't think it's good business to have pre and post game coverage on the team? That's stupid
I'm holding out hope the DODGERS recognize how lame this situation is and they find a way to fund their own coverage and team up with a local over the air station for a few weeks.
I can't believe KCal wouldn't jump at this opportunity. Live post game sports coverage or Seinfeld and Big Bang theory re runs? No brainier.
