$6-$7 billion? Makes you wonder what McCourt was doing with his little $1.5 billion TV deal.

I'm trying to figure out the free antenna tv in Las Vegas - I've heard reception might not be too good for me: I'm in Summerlin and the signal comes from Henderson. Also not sure what programming comes over the antenna since they've gone digital. Mostly Spanish language? Right now I've got internet and no tv - but I've been good with that for the past year and a half as everything I need is on the internet (and I have a friend who dvr's for me). For my baseball needs, I had to go with mlb audio and vipbox last season - as LV in the LAD blackout market. That really sucked. Maybe I just need to move to Wyoming or Montana and get out of the Dodgers blackout range.

I used a cheap $20 antenna like this. Worked great, but I lived in Henderson and you could see Black Mountain right outside my bedroom window. Antenna gets you the basics: CBS, NBC, FOX and a few others (TBS maybe?).

But actually, I forgot, I never figured out a solution in Vegas and wound up getting Cox during the Summer months. At one point I even had Century Link internet and Cox cable because Century Link didn't get Prime Ticket. mlb.tv is no solution in Las Vegas, in fact I think LA, ANA, AZ, OAK, and SF are all blacked out there.

Cox was the only legit solution I could find (there are satellite solutions too, but they aren't any cheaper). I did, however, drop Cox a few times for the winter months. Cox doesn't have contracts and will usually set you up for free, so as cheesy as it sounds, you can get Cox for half the year if you want.

Thanks, Mouse. I've got Century Link for internet only and I'm good with it. I had Cox for a while, but they lied and charged way more than advertised, so I told them to take their crap away or I'd set it on fire in the backyard. During that brief Cox phase, I noticed they didn't give you all the Dodger games listed in the Fox Sports West schedule - so I remember tuning into womens volleyball and high school football highlights from the previous fall, waiting for Vinny and he never showed up. So, I feel like cable tv is all a big ripoff here in LV.

I'll check out the antenna, though. I may need a converter box, too, now that they've gone digital. Not sure. But, as I've said, I don't miss tv except for the Dodgers. But after seeing those free games on mlbtv last season, I'd go definitely go there if I could - it's the best LAD option out there imho.

Did you ever try running mlb.tv through a proxy server? I vaguely remember someone was going to try that.

Anyway, yes, you will need a converter box if you have an old analog TV. I have a converter box taking up space in a drawer if you want mine - I've moved on to real TVs. I had one antenna, used a splitter and sent one line direct to my digital TV, and the other to my converter box + analog TV. If an antenna doesn't work for you, you should just move to the East side because Summerlin is gay.

I don't think I'll gamble with a bootleg server - you get it wrong and you are stuck watching other teams. You must become a Rockies fan or something and that's truly impossible.

The truth is, I like NOT having a tv. I get what I want on internet and, as I've said, I've got dvr connections for my weekly dose of Boardwalk Empire. I even have Skype - so it's all coming in through one umbilical.

Is Summerlin gay because it has a Cheesecake Factory? If I'm not mistaken I believe there is one in Henderson...

    There's nothing gay about cheesecake.

    This on the other hand...

Dodgers, Fox expected to miss deadline but keep talking on TV deal

The Dodgers and Fox Sports are not expected to conclude a television deal by Friday, according to a person familiar with the negotiations but not authorized to discuss them.

However, the two sides are expected to continue talks on a contract that could be worth more than $6 billion over 25 years, according to two parties familiar with the talks.

Friday marks the final day of the exclusive negotiating window between Fox and the Dodgers.

It is unclear whether the two sides would agree to extend the window or simply keep talking while the Dodgers consider other options, most notably Time Warner Cable Sportsnet.

TWC has made no secret of its intention to bid for the Dodgers if the opportunity arises. TWC signed the Lakers for a guaranteed $3.6 billion over 20 years, with options that could make the deal worth $5 billion over 25 years. That deal pays the Lakers straight cash, via an annual rights fee.

The Dodgers' proposed deal with Fox would not pay the team straight cash but would provide the team with a substantial ownership stake in Prime Ticket.

If the Dodgers and Fox do not reach a deal by Friday and do not extend the exclusive negotiating window, the team would have to provide Fox with a final offer by Dec. 7. Fox would then have 30 days to accept or reject the offer.

Dodgers meet with Time Warner Cable
By Joe Flint | Los Angeles Times
    December 7, 2012, 9:29 a.m.

It looks like the Dodgers are checking out another pitcher.

After negotiating exclusively with Fox Sports on a new TV deal to keep the team on its Prime Ticket network, the Dodgers have taken a meeting with Time Warner Cable, which wants the team on its SportsNet and Deportes channels. The news was first reported Thursday night by Los Angeles Times Dodger beat writer Bill Shaikin.

Fox Sports is still seen as the likely favorite to land the team. Not only does it already have a long relationship with the Dodgers, it is offering more than $6 billion for a 25-year deal. Fox Sports' current contract is up at the end of next season and will cost about $40 million. That would more than double in 2014 under the contract being discussed.

But Time Warner Cable, which shelled out more than $3 billion to snag the Lakers away from Fox Sports, also has a big bank account for sports rights. The Dodgers are at least curious to hear what Time Warner Cable has to say.

Fox Sports had an exclusive window with the Dodgers, but that expired at the end of November. Now it up to the Dodgers to make an offer to Fox by today (Friday). Fox Sports then has a month to make up its mind.

If the Dodgers go with Fox Sports, a stake in Prime Ticket is likely to be part of the agreement. That may not be something Time Warner Cable can provide since the Lakers do not have an ownership stake in SportsNet. If the Dodgers did go with Time Warner Cable and receive a piece of the channel, the Lakers may want a stake as well.

The Dodgers could also decide to launch their own regional sports network.

News Corp.'s Fox Sports and Time Warner Cable's sports turf war is not limited to Los Angeles. In New York, Fox Sports bought a big stake in the Yes Network, the regional sports channel owned by the Yankees. In Cleveland, Fox is expected to buy a network owned by the Indians baseball team.

 Fuck Fox. We should finally get that company out of here. They've done nothing but fuck the Dodgers over for years.

They are employed by the Dodgers, not Fox.

    anyways, this is promising:
So even if we do, heaven forbid, end up with FOX, it will be a partnership on creating a team branded channel. Unlike the Angels, who signed a 3 billion dollar deal to continue the same standard game coverage for 20 years. The Dodgers would take a large stake in any channel, and make it a team branded, interactive rsn.

Shit really? I thought Lyons/Collins were employed by FOX and that is why they get to do some FOX games.

Yeah, I like the idea of the Dodgers taking some control over the channel so it can be better than the shitty product they throw out there.

Ironically, Lyons was fired from FOX several years ago, and regional network allowed the Dodgers to keep him employed under them if he took sensitivity training. So he's only under contract with the Dodgers to do the pre game shows and road games. You won't see him on any other Fox network or affiliate.

Collins, not sure. He's hired under the Dodgers as their play-by-play guy on road games. But I remember he did a game on big Fox against Seattle so idk. But Fox seems to grab a lot of free lancers to do games on Saturdays.

Regardless, Collins sucks. Lyons I like doing fundamental videos, his interactions with players, he's funny, and is good on the pregame shows. I don't think he's suited for the booth. I think Collins dumbs him down. But I love Lyons. He's been around for a long time with the Dodgers and is a funny personable guy. If you don't like his knowledge, they could try to balance it out with a more analytical mind to pair with him on the pregame shows.

Vinny for 162 games. With today's technology they should be able to create a room where he can see the game real time as if he was sitting at the park...

Can't stand Buck and I doubt he'd ditch a national TV gig to broadcast Dodger games anyways.

If we could pry away a national tv big shot, it should be Al Michaels or Bob Costas.
