The hatred for Ethier is retarded. His contract is a little too much, and by little I mean it should've been about $75M.
Harsh words from a guy with a man crush on Jerry Sands. And sorry, if he or Van Slyke were a better option than Loney or Rivera we'd have brought them up. Leave the real decisions to the big boys. Now go back to your xBox and call-up/trade/acquire/DFA whoever the hell you want.
I think Ned and co. saw Van Slyke and Sands as mostly OF'ers. And when these guys failed to fill that hole in LF, even over Gwynn/Abreu/Rivera, etc - they were pretty much out for this season. And it was the Victorino deal that finally came along and scrubbed 'em out all together. They'll come up in Sept as PH/utility, and maybe they can earn a few AB's, but I think it's better luck next year, guys... JMHO.
And when did they fail in their "chance"? If you are evaluating them off limited PT, that is just terrible. Like trying to call a game after 3 pitches.
Not nearly as bad as you evaluating them based on time in the minors. Really? That's the best you can do? I expected more from you. I at least expected you to say I wasn't a real Dodger fan
Neither one of those guys jumped in and took the job in LF (or 1B). Whatever chances they did have, they didn't impress the manager for more AB's. Blame DBB if you want. Maybe trying to convert them into 1Bmen screwed them up, idk. But you can't afford to leave one or the other out in LF for half a season to see if they might adjust to mlb pitching - not when you are at or near 1st place. Maybe they earn some AB's in Sept call up. Maybe next spring they both hit their way into the lineup. Great - I'm not a h8ter. It sucks AAA is not preparing these guys as the numbers indicate. It also sucks we don't have any genuine 1Bmen ready to come up. If we had takers I'd trade 'em both for a real 1Bman. I'm not big on these one season conversions.
