I think the time has come to make a move at 1B. Although there is a solid chance we get another bat, I suggest that we call up Sands and let him be the full time first baseman. Bat the kid second and let him run the show in that spot. He is patient at the plate, can run and should see a lot of pitches to hit with Kemp, Ethier and Ramirez batting behind him. I say cut Rivera and let Sands play. I know a lot of you think he sucks, but at this point I have zero doubt he is better than Rivera or Loney with the bat. Better to see what you have than to let him rot in AAA. Btw, before you judge, look at his numbers last September when he got to play everyday. Make the move Ned...
I think both Rivera and Loney are better hitters than Sands. I think the organization knows what Sands is capable of and if they thought he could hit at the big league level, he would have been the first one to get the chance with all of the injuries this year. He was almost guaranteed a roster spot out of ST and he blew it. That's not to say he doesn't deserve a chance just because he had a bad ST...I mean that the organization is NOT overlooking Sands. They are aware of him, and don't like what they see. He went to AAA and couldn't hit. The team would love for him to be an option. But they have coaches, scouts, etc, and apparently, they don't think so.
Lolol: Albuquerque Isotopes @AbqTopes SANDS! Jerry Sands ties a PCL record with his second grand slam of the game! 'Topes lead game two 10-0 T-4 #doubleheader
Jerry Sands would be great as a #2 hitter. Patient and he likes to go the other way (great for when Victorino is on first an there's a hole on the right side). Plus he has the power to make pitchers pay for grooving him strikes so they don't have to face Kemp. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry...!
Really, what these guys need is hits. You're not gonna get much if you keep benching them for guys like Loney, Uribe and whoever the hell you trotted out to LF before Victorino got here.
Sands is a viable options at 1B. This year his home/away splits arent as bad as before (he's known to be a PCL effect hitter), but its still not like he's killing the league... Neither is VanSlyke... from the AAA team the best option to do something productive is Castellanos...
Yeah, I think I'm on the Sands bandwagon. I don't think the dude is going to be a great player, but I think he'll at least put up the same numbers Juan and James are.
I'm still no to Sands, but am warming up to it a bit. I still hold out hope there will be a 1B to be gotten in a waiver trade.
I get a little warmer every time one of those fuckheads roll over a meatball for a DP, which seems like it's about 7 times a game or when we need momentum the most.
Sands in 23 games since the ASB: .372/.438/.733/1.170 with 4 2Bs, 9 HRs and 28 RBI Call him up NOW! Cut Rivera and let Sands take over.
