Kershaw goes 5 innings, Guerrero homers

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A Cactus League pitching duel between elite left-handers Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Chris Sale of the White Sox played out to a virtual draw, but it was the White Sox who came out on top, 4-2, thanks to a two-run home run by Tyler Saladino in the meeting of Camelback Ranch neighbors.

Sale, making his first Cactus League appearance after making his first few starts on the Minor League side, went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Kershaw, in his fourth spring start, also allowed two earned on six hits, walking none and striking out four.

"It's just another Spring Training game," Sale said. "I usually don't pay too much attention to who I'm pitching against. As for the atmosphere, more people probably came out because of that. It was good. Overall, we accomplished what we needed to."

The White Sox got to Kershaw first, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning. Todd Frazier started it with a leadoff double, and he scored two outs later on a Jerry Sands single. The White Sox added a pair of singles after that, including one by Saladino to knock Sands home.

In the next half-inning, the Dodgers got on the board with an RBI triple by Howie Kendrick into the right-field corner, where Avisail Garcia stumbled while trying to corral the ball. They tied the game in the fourth when Alex Guerrero led off with a solo homer.

Bolsinger scratched from start against Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers scratched right-hander Mike Bolsinger minutes before his scheduled start on Sunday against the San Diego Padres. Jeremy Kehrt started in place of Bolsinger.

Kehrt started 22 games last season for Double-A Tulsa, posting a 3.46 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. The news came soon after the club announced Zach Lee was optioned to Minor League camp.

Along with Brandon Beachy, Bolsinger and Lee are the primary candidates to be named the Dodgers’ fifth starter once they break camp for the regular season.

Bolsinger threw four scoreless innings against the Milwaukee Brewers in his last outing, which was his first start of Spring Training this year.

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the 28 year old was scratched due to abdominal tightness:

Bolsinger was 6-6 with a 3.62 ERA, 3.91 FIP and 1.36 WHIP in 21 starts with the Dodgers last season. He was 3-1 in May with a 1.05 ERA in four starts (25.2 innings pitched), then owned a 4.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in June, and 3.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in July.

Bolsinger was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after the Dodgers acquired Mat Latos and Alex Wood in a three-team trade with the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins.

Significant improvement in velocity for Kazmir today. Fastball 88 to 92 mph. All four strikeouts on fastballs at 90 mph


Seems like he was more worried about his mechanics then velocity, and fixing his mechanics improved his velocity
