please share... I would love to see that stat, and I'm not being sarcastic... that could be a good way to evaluate the results...
I recall an article that stated that his move to pitcher was a last try to save his career after they gave up on him as a hitter... If that's not a failure as a catcher (remember, position players need to develop on both sides of the game), I dont know what it is... I'm not saying that I know better than our scouts... I just say that maybe after all our scouts arent as good as we want to believe...

Fair enough, I was just trying to put it out there that there's a lot of stuff scouts factor in to their decisions (and sorry if I came off as a dick). And, to be honest, I don't really know how our scouts stack up against other organization's. Maybe Based God or VRP could come up with some stats on that.
Start listing them. I'll wait. I'm not saying that we have developed the most impact players, but we're definitely not behind everybody else.
that will require some extra research, but I already said SF (Lincecum, Pablo, Posey, Bumgarner, Cain). Even Johnatan Sanchez was fairly good before his arm fell off... staying within the division in AZ you can say Young, Upton, Kennedy, Montero, Miley, Drew (who was good until this season), Goldshmidt...
Young sucks, Upton was the #1 overall pick (that's what you get when you lose 114 games), Kennedy is from New York. The rest are good tho. We have/had Kemp, Loney (if you're including Chris Young), Jansen, Kershaw, Billingsley, Lindblom, Russell Martin, Edwin Jackson, James MacDonald, Broxton, RDLR, etc.
All of the Dbacks good prospects get traded to Oakland somehow lol. Parker, Cook, CarGo. IMO though, you shouldn't get credit for drafting and seasoning the prospect if you trade him. You basically gave up on him to get something that you think is better. Vise versa. For example, we should get credit for bringing up Ethier. Sure, we didn't draft him, but we rolled the dice by trading two major league ready players for a prospect.
Not to mention the fact that the Giants and Rays were bad for a good portion of the past decade, the Giants best picks were Lincecum, Posey and Bumgarner, who were all top 10 guys, while Kershaw was the only time we picked that high.
you are right on Kennedy, but Young doenst suck (at least not Loney sucking level)... on the list you add Martin is NOT an impact player (at least not anymore), Jackson is decent, McD is TERRIBLE (dont call him good for 2 months of success), RDLR hasnt proved a thing...
Oh, we're talking about good people? Young batted .200 this year. Loney had 3-4 consecutive years of 90 RBI. Martin was a star for the Dodgers. Jackson is definitely an impact player as the Nats (as stupid as they are) let him start in a playoff game and is getting payed $10-$12MM. Wouldn't have included McD and RDLR if I knew we were talking about solid major leaguers.
that was a good reading, but says something important: since 2009, we havent received any help from our prospects...
the difference between Young and Loney is that Young had a bad season because of injuries and Loney has been riding a slope straight downhill since his 9 RBI game in Colorado... Young's WAR in 2010 was 5.2 and 4.6 in 2011... Loney was a 0.4 in 2010 and 2.4 in 2011, not counting his -1.2 this year...
Here we go with the SABR stats lol. He's a great CF and he's got some speed, but if you want someone who's never batted over .257 in their career then be my guest.
Young is a classic case of a guy who's WAR doesn't tell the whole story. He had one career year offensively followed by a strangely high, inconsistent UZR-assisted second. He's not a good player.
