    While looking at the top notch free agent signings we have had this offseason, I almost wonder if its a big practical joke by ned and frank. The team is essentially gone, so are they signing these scrubs just to hang them on the next owner? I seriously wonder if they aren't secretly saying, fuck it ned sign the worst guys you can find.

    I really wish it was something like that, but to be honest, it's 100% Ned and his stupidity. This is honestly his way of using money in what he truly believes is the best way to improve this team. Ned fucked up the Dodgers every year he has been here.

    When you're team is broke(cutting payroll) and had a dozen holes to fill, you get what we got. A bunch of scrubs filling holes as cheaply as possible.

    broke, but paying scrubs a pretty nice sum of millions. I understand getting what you get, but a good GM wouldn't be spending this much on them. It's not a lot, but all these deals can be handed out for much less and for a year less.

    Bold part is the important part: He ISN'T doing it as cheaply as possible. Juan Rivera gets released by his team, and Ned gives him close to the same contract the next year. Jerry Hairston Jr is a fine player, but Ned is giving him his biggest annual salary he has ever had at age fucking 36. The Padres decline a 5 million option on Harang, Ned raises his average annual contract and gives him a 2nd year; Chris Capuano was predicted to be getting a 1-2 year contract worth 3-6 mil, he gets 2 years 5 mil;

    He isn't doing it as cheaply as possible, he could have saved a lot of money even with the same players he got, by signing them to valuable deals. They are getting overpaid in 2012 and 2013 which hurts us beyond belief

    THIS.

    It's not the fact we signed these players, it's how much we signed them for. Say the new owners come in with money like everyone's been talking about. What happens when we eventually go after big FA? We either wait the contracts out, trade them (with those contracts we would probably have to take a chunk of the money) release them but still pay them, or have a bench full of millionaires. At least with one years deals we can get away from them easily next year once we have a new owner. Instead, we just have overpaid backups. Great. I don't care how many teams overpay players. If we're supposedly broke, don't give them contracts like these. Ned has always mismanaged money, and these signings just show that he hasn't learned anything since coming here.

    You guys know this how? This is an opinion that cannot be proven correct or incorrect until the season ends. If I am mis-interpreting you then let me know but have you guys have given up on the season based upon the money spent?

    This season is where the big name free agents are available, unless I am mistaken 2013 isn't as attractive and the team is still owned by Frank don't forget. The new owner I am guessing won't be too concerned because if they are a rich as we all hope they are they can absorb the debt easily and won't be opposed to just releasing those players

    Maybe not, in order to meet budget for 2012 he had to offer them a 2013 to backload the money until then. Other wise it was sign them for one year and do more deferment. We have limited money for 2012 payroll and to many openings.

    Agreed buy maybe this is a reflection of how badly our brand is hurt and players needing more money to agree to play here.

    No, no offense but the "brand name" has nothing to do with it in such signings like this. These players would sign these deals for any MLB team regardless of anything

    Agreed but they might have signed for less elsewhere but needed that much to sign now for us and if offered less preferred to have waited.

    Is it fair to say that any pitcher who signs with us for next year shouldn't look for a lot of run support? That isn't a big motivation to sign a one year deal and go into free agency again with a possibly lousy W/L record.

    ANY competent GM would be.
    I mean, is the competition for scrubs like Ellis/Hairston/Treanor/Kennedy really so fierce that you have to overpay and give them multi-year deals? Ned is a fucken idiot. Even if theses deals work out -- i.e. players exceed expectations -- they were for the most part poor business decisions.

    Fuck Ned, seriously.

    I could live with this SHIT if the deals were for a year, but fuck this. I FUCKING HATE the fact that all our young prospects get blocked by these cocksucker, shit veterans who get paid 6x or more than the young guys.

    FUCK NED!
