It's got nothing to do with what I think, look at his career. He's 30 years old and has never played more than 117 games (when he was 26, with a Mets team that was struggling), but is on pace to play his most games ever. He is the quintessential super utility guy being pressed into service as a every day player. Beyond this year he will be nothing more. It's not that I don't like him, it's that I recognize what he is and what he will be.
Turners BA runs .260/.269/.280/.340/.308 in 5 years His OPS runs .690/.711/.704/.897/.915 Looks like pretty steady improvement the past 5 years and anyone hitting .308 and .915 is going to get lots of line up time. Super utility guy? If that is a super utility guy with thopse #'s then give him a starting assignment already. Traded your favorite old fat super "D" 3B? Well plug him in until someone hitting BETTER than .308 comes along. Or until he fades... which could easily happen But for now he should play... hell he's got the highest BA on the entire team for now!!
I think you are underestimating Turner a bit. He has proven that he should no longer be viewed as a utility guy. Over the last year+ his numbers are right there with some of the top 3B in the league, both offensively and defensively. Granted I don't think he is the elite level player he has been this season, but he could prove to be a first level 3B. His D has been solid at 3B and his hitting has been fantastic. I think Dodgers Digest touched on this recently and said that his long term peripherals are positive for what he has been doing and for his future. His luck from last year is gone, but he's still doing extremely well at the plate. I know a lot of Dodgers fans and baseball people in general were very excited when he came here(I was one of them). He was playing in a major pitchers park for a bad team and many thought he'd do better with more regular playing time, away from that home field and bad situation. Since coming here, he has refined his swing to get more loft and his numbers have continued to jump because of that. He'll never be Cal Ripken in the games played department, but we are the one team that can weather him being a 3 days on, 1 day off guy. I think we have seen the birth of a late bloomer who could be a valuable piece at 3rd for years while using Olivera at 2B... or if the gods truly love us, Olivera at 3B, Kendrick at 2B and Turner in LF...
This. Pretty much. Of course we now take Olivera out and replace him Peraza as the " other infielder " who should be coming in with Seager, though. Or maybe like you said at the end there (with a twist)...if the baseball gods love us they'll find a way to fit Peraza in LF ( leadoff man), get Kendrick on a new deal at 2B ( with Peraza and Kike as depth that can keep HK rested), and go with Turner at 3B ( with Austin Barnes or Kike perhaps giving Turner a day off every 4th day). Peraza's played his share of CF...if he can handle CF, he can handle LF 3 or 4 times a week. Peraza/Seager/Turner/AGon/Yaz$/Kendrick/Puig/Joc looks like the kind of order DBB would start with next year. Maybe Seager is a tad high in the 2 hole, but of course that's the caliber of hitter we hope he his right away. We hope Seager's being a more advanced hitter than Joc and Puig translates to the show ASAP.
Beltre probably needs to be 3 days on/1 day off at this point too. Bad as he's looked at the plate this year...old people.
Not quite sure what is wrong with evaluating trades. I'm actually thinking of doing one for the Adrian Gonzalez deal. Beats the mindless responses in the game threads.
nothing wrong with it and wasn't directing it at you just get tired of those who won't let this kinda stuff go pedro/deshields, blake/santana... i like dee a lot and was happy to see him break out last year and if we had some bum manning 2b i'd probably be pissed too but it's not like howie has been a liability out there
