if the report is even true..Hamels does have a club option after 2018 and it's probably gonna take a 6yr deal to keep Lester from going back to Boston. so that'd clear Hamels off the books after his age 34 season. Lester would be locked in until he's 36.

but yes, they'd have to give up talent to get Hamels..to which point, if they are entertaining this, i have to wonder how they feel about Joc. i'm not 100% sure, but i thought Joc was offered up for David Price at the deadline? if he was, and Friedman passed, that may let us know how Friedman feels about Joc. or maybe not and they'd just be dealing from our outfield depth..they did just watch Schebler and Sweeney tear it up.

I actually think Juan moves into a RP role, not SP role as depth.

He's a proven arm and has experience and had a 3.48 ERA in 20 2/3 innings of work last year. Not to mention, he is a power arm and moving to the BP will allow his velocity to improve.

gotta give to get. wouldn't be surprised if it's 2 of Urias, Pederson, Seager or maybe one of those plus Arrub... a glove first shortstop as good as him is v valuable if he can do anything at all with the stick and the Phills are a good team to give him a shot. Maybe Rollins or Galvis comes over as well? interesting to ponder

    • According to reports, the Dodgers expressed an interest in Hamels prior to last season’s trading deadline and were asked for Joc Pederson, Corey Seager and Julio Urias. Although the Phillies are believed to be sellers this offseason, the level of interest in Hamels could lead to them sticking with high demands in a potential trade.

I mean you can always sabotage the Giants... although you'd give away Posey for Juan Lagaras and he'd hit .600 in the postseason and win all the awards.

That is when you trade all their best players to the Dodgers then resign and say "thanks for the money bkitches."

Lol i was saying the same earlier..the main guys that are goin crazy are the ones who've been trying to convince me that the Dodgers were a really good team last year. i mean if that's the case, and we're hanging on to those 94 wins, then let the FO address some of the real weaknesses with the club. i mean i'd like Andrew Miller, but i'm not about to lose my shit if they don't get him..i like what they've done with the little pen pieces thus far as it is.

but also these are the same people that have been preaching " priorities " to me all off-season..as in " the Dodgers must do this first! " well, damn..they are addressing the bullpen and the defense up the middle by letting Hanley go. Lol they're doin fine. it's the Hanley hype..it's got a craze goin..his contract is a straight up 7 car pile up.

we have so much outfield depth..i mean even coming up the pipeline with Schebler and Sweeney..i wouldn't be mad if they dealt Joc. fuck it. give Puig another year in CF.

Seager and Urias, on the other hand, i wouldn't be happy about allowing either to go there.

i'd send Joc, Chris Anderson, Guerrero, Arruba, Zach Lee and cash for Hamels and Rollins.

For comparisons sake, Hamels is within days the same age as Lester, and has 4/90 with a $20M option on his deal. So do you give up the prospects and get Hamels, or give 6/130-140 (i'm guessing) and get Lester?

I like the Nicasio deal... probably more than any other minor trade we've made thus far

He's got bullpen stuff and was decently successful in that role at the end of last year in Colorado.

and I agree it makes no sense to be in on a Hamels trade and not be in on a Lester signing

I'd rather be stuck with an additional year on a Lester contract than trade Urias for Hamels.

    Scherzer/Lester signing >>> Hamels trade

like I said in the other thread, I much rather be stuck with Scherzer/Lester an additional year on their contracts over trading Urias.

are you just ignoring the reports that Lester's already gotten a 6yr offer from Boston?

again, it's likely gonna take at least a 6yr offer to keep him from going back to Boston..btw, he's already 30yrs old.

Hamels has 4yrs before his club option. it makes perfect sense. there is drawback in that they have to give up talent and i highly doubt they'll do the trade if they have to give up Seager or Urias, but maybe a Joc package is doable.
