If he can transition to the pen, he could be a very dangerous weapon out of the pen. I believe he is out of options, so unless he is just untouchable that may be his only way to the bigs.

    Dave says 8 man pen

So Verdugo probably doesn’t make the team out of spring training, considering the starters, Kemp, Utley, Barnes and Kiké

Off-season officially over? My fondest memory..on Twitter watching the same fans that were pounding the table the last couple years for the FO to bring Kemp back because of his HRs and RBI, complain about LAD adding nothing to the team this off-season. Just goes to show, that in their hearts, they knew better all along..Kemp is not it.

But that's all I've got..winning the off-season doesn't equate to anything, so comic relief is it. Hopefully, LAD can just come through when it matters most this season. I imagine the FO will bolster the team again at the trade deadline and put them in position to either man up or choke it away again. And if Doc Roberts doesn't get his shit together, maybe they'll pull the plug on him and give Gibson a more important role than " 1st pitch curse breaker " at some point.

We still have a ton of depth. The OF producing will be huge. What we get out of Puig, Taylor, Verdugo and Joc will be the difference between an 89 win team and a 96 win team.

Verdugo's gonna mess around and make it out of spring training with another org.
There is absolutely some potential for him to pout about not being in the majors from the start, and have that effect his performance and value moving forward

I don't think Verdugo was ever in the cards to be on the opening day roster. It is not just because of Kemp, but Joc, Toles and Thompson(out of options) too ahead of him would make it hard for him to crack the OD roster. What could be really interesting is if Kemp is the starting LF'er, which if he is on the roster that is what he will be, they could have a bench of Hernandez, Utley, Barnes and Farmer with that 8 man bullpen. So Joc, Verdugo and Toles starting in AAA is realistic and unless they make a trade, Thompson could be the one that they substitute in for Farmer in my scenario.

Another thing to watch for is Font/Stewart/Stripling makes the rotation opening day with a 7 man bullpen and someone like Ryu is phantom DL'd to start the year. Then after their first start, they slide to the bullpen and the team rolls with a 5 man bench, 4 man rotation until mid-April before activating him.

With the glut in the OF, either someone gets hurt and settles this or the club is going to have to make a trade.

Yeah, if Kemp is on the team they need to go ahead and start him in LF. We've already been down the pouty Matt Kemp road

Kemp is like the 40th most talented baseball player in this system, are people seriously in agreement to start him and pencil in 0-1 wins out of left field? Seriously?

It is absolutely understandable why the team would start him if they are unable to trade him. You don't bench a guy making $20M a year over the next two years as his value becomes zero. You start him and he plays well or at least shows something for that matter and maybe you unload a couple of million off the roster. Like I have said, this lineup is talented enough around Kemp that it should not be a crushing blow if they start the season with him in LF.

    Hahahaha
I mean I agree with you, but yeah, if he's on the team at all..for the sanity of the team..just start him so he's not bitching and pouting and bringing everybody down.
They made due with your guy Howie out there with excellent defensive placement..hopefully, in that scenario they'd be able to turn Kemp's defense from horrendous to just bad.

Really don't wanna have to see Chase Utley whip Matt Kemp's ass, so yeah, just start him if he's around

Kinda hoped he would take his training more seriously this offseason so he could reclaim his spot in CF... doesn't look like my wish will be fulfilled.

I’m legit baffled by this entire train of thought. Probably best to just agree to disagree.
