Dodgers claim J.T. Chargois and 60 Day Urias

    From MLBTR
Feb. 23: Chargois was actually placed on waivers on Wednesday, Berardino tweets, meaning the outcome should be known this afternoon.

Feb. 22: The Twins have placed righty J.T. Chargois on outright waivers, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press (Twitter link). It seems the hope is that the injured Chargois will clear waivers while leaving the organization a 40-man spot to work with.

Chargois, a second-round pick in the 2012 draft, steadily moved up the Minnesota system as he worked to harness a big heater. In 2016, he impressed in his first attempt at Triple-A, posting a 1.29 ERA with 10.5 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 over 35 innings. And while he struggled overall in a first attempt at the majors, Chargois did finish his debut effort with a strong final month.

The arrow pointed up heading into 2017, but Chargois stalled out. He took the mound only twice in competitive situations while dealing with an elbow problem that was ultimately diagnosed as a stress reaction. While he did not require surgery, there’s obviously some uncertainty as to how his career will progress from this point.

Given that Chargois held onto his 40-man spot throughout the winter, it seems the Twins have maintained at least some cause for optimism. On the other hand, the club is obviously now willing to take a chance at losing a pitcher who not long ago seemed a future closer possibility. Whether his early showing in camp impacted the decision is not clear, but it’s somewhat notable that Minnesota did not place Chargois on the 60-day DL, suggesting that he’s healthy enough that such a placement would not be warranted.

Taylor won't be impacted, but Toles very likely will be starting the year in AAA after the injury.

    It is.

Put Taylor at 2B and use Logan as the utility man.
This frees up the OF for our plethora of guys with lots of upside and gives Kemp the opportunity to play himself into a good trade chip in LF or god forbid a formidable veteran on a WS contending team.

    2B: Taylor
    SS: Seager
    3B: Turner
    1B: Bellinger
    RF: Puig
    LF: Kemp
    C : Barnes/Grandal
CF: Joc/Toles/Verdugo/Kike/Thompson + competition breeds excellence and separates outs the dregs.
    Pitcher/DH/PH

This extends the lineup more than anything we could do.

Despite what a lot of people here believe about Friedman and Zaidi, I don’t see them as guys whose hubris is so strong that they’d allow the ninth best left fielder on the roster to continue to get at bats and hurt the teams overall chances.

These are the same guys that have put an immeasurable amount of consideration into minute roster decisions for years, and yet they’re gonna say “You know what yeah let Kemp get 500 PA’s and cost us 2-3 wins because we might be able to shed $6 million next year”

I can't speak for anybody else, but I don't think he gets 500 PA's if he is terrible. I have said that if he isn't traded or hurt prior to the start of the season, he'll get the chance out the gate to show some bit of value as an everyday player. If things are not going well after the first month or so, then I definitely see the team going a different route in a hurry. In the meantime, yes this FO would do something like that if it got them out of a few million dollars this season and next compared to a couple hundred grand. He playing well enough in the beginning of season to get traded so that the team could make a roster move at the deadline and have a better team on the field for the end of the season is a risk that I could see this FO doing.

In your future telling opinion the only destiny for Kemp in the OF is to suck and cost us wins.
I will give you those 3 wins if you want. I can play fortune teller too.
So we win 3 less games than last year.
And we have to carry Matt Kemp and his bad LF defense to the playoffs where he starts vs lefties but sits vs righties.
And he gets pulled after the stretch for defensive replacements anyway.
    We gotta do all that.
And what are we left with?
The 1 thing our lineup needed in the WS.
A DH that we can throw in to match up with the AL team who starts the season with a bonafide hitter at the position.
As the NL team we have to mix and match and scratch and sniff and put somebody in that role when we make it to the WS.
Because our teams are not built for the WS where you need to have a bonafide 9th starting hitter in your lineup.
Not your pinch hitter or utility man or veteran whose been on the DL all year or a 'guy that can get on base' but a bonafide professional hitter with power to knock in runs.
You know... the once great but much maligned RBIz.

That is all Matt Kemp is to me. He is that extra bullet in the chamber come the WS.
If he can pull his own weight and we can survive his defense in LF then he will be worth his weight come WS time.

LOL... sorry to unwind you without a fight but it was just you saying Font and me saying bold.

Dug your Kemp post BTW, if you're on FB, Sportsnet posted his go ahead 3 run jack today and it gave me a much needed charge for the season...

Gonna go out on a limb and say you are not a believer in Kemp's RBIz
Can't wait to see the re-grade of this off-season if Kemp somehow becomes a hero in a World Series winning year for LAD
Don't think it'll happen, the hero part, but just the re-grade of this off-season will be comedic gold if it does

Yeah, what I am hoping most for is he gets off to another start like he did last year and his D numbers play up from proper placement. Then someone like the Indians or Twins get desperate for a DH after a slow start, or some other AL teams gets off to a strong start without a good DH and the FO takes advantage to move him and as much of that contract as possible. I believe he has it in him to play well for at least a couple month stretch, but after that it gets risky.
I will admit that there is a faint hope in Kemp being in a clubhouse with accountability changes him, but I would never take that for granted until his contract actually expired.
