If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

So then if Behuler is untouchable then a package to get Archer has to start with Verdugo and Ruiz (you and I know the Rays are going to ask for the moon....every one does from the Dodgers). After actually looking at Archer's stats, I am 50/50 on acquiring him. He is the same age as Kershaw, but has 1/2 the innings on his arm. But his ERA is not as good as I thought it was/should be.

If a trade package for Archer has to start with Ruiz, the trade doesn't finish.

He walked 31 times in 421 plate appearances, or 7.3%. That is a worse rate than he had in 2016 actually

A significant improvement from his 1st couple seasons in the league is what I meant. You could sort of piece that together.
If a guy walks 31 times in 421 PA's and the year before he walked 40 times in 414 PA's, then 1.) that's not enough of a decrease to even mention and 2.) you have to know that I was talking about the significant increase from his 1st couple seasons as a starter.
However, I did say " last couple years "
Ultimately, if he plays 140-150 games, he should probably be walking 60+ times
40 walks in 105 games is decent

He hasn't really lost his luster, but he didn't take a leap forward that some thought he was capable of so it kind of stagnated his value. His ceiling doesn't look as high of a chance for him to reach as it did at the start of last year. He put a season together that made him look like a guy that most projections kind of tabbed him to be and not potentially the next young superstar in line that some felt was achievable if he began to hit the ball in the air more. He still has +/++ bat to ball skills and an arm to match, he just doesn't elevate the ball all that much so his power upside for a corner OF is really looking bad. We have all seen how quickly that can change, but for right now he is more of a solid complimentary player on a team with a couple superstars instead of one of the stars. He is still rated one of the top prospects in baseball, so that is nothing to sneeze at, he just doesn't have that upside of the guys that came before him.

Him starting 2018 in AAA is not the worst thing in the world either. He can work on putting the ball in the air and this will slow his arb clock so the Dodgers don't have to pay big 3 years in a row potentially.

I look at Verdugo, and I see early Ethier (2006-08), tons of doubles, 15-20 bombs, plus defense in right and we'll see about Center.

Yeah, I was disappointed that they gave him 4 games to show what he had and they gave Granderson through the first round to show how terrible he was. From what is being reported, the team was not ok with his attitude(He also overslept one day) and this may have been the bigger reason why he didn't get a bigger shot. Next to his lack of putting the ball in the air, scouts generally knock him points due to what is perceived as a really shitty attitude. After his best friend, Willie Calhoun was traded, he apparently pouted a lot and people saw it in his play on the field. He says that he is working on having a more positive attitude, but saying and doing are two entirely different things.

Word is that Archer and KK were getting shopped up until the last couple of days. The returns they expected were said to be not even in the same ballpark for what teams were offering so they have decided to wait until the deadline to revisit trades for those two. Colome is said to still be generating interest where they would think of moving him.

Yeah, I think a lot folks think that is where he will be with a couple peak years maybe in the 4 range. If he is anything like Ethier with the bat, that would be fantastic. I don't think he will have all the power that Andre had, but he may be more of an everyday player than Ethier should have been. Also, his defense is tremendously better than Andre's ever was.

Not to be a dick, but he doesn't come off as the sharpest knife in the drawer and I've heard kind of the same. He is going to need an ass kicking and hopefully a guy like Utley is the one to give it. One thing Verdugo is not, is cut from the same cloth as Seager and Belli.... and Calhoun for that matter.

For a guy who doesn’t have much pop, I’d like his OBP to be higher than .338 (which is his career best). He’s either hitting at the top of the lineup where we need him to get on so our guys can get him in or more likely the bottom where he needs to turn the lineup over.

Bottom, definitely. BR projects a .327 OBP and .434 SLG
They also project only 452 PA's, so they don't like his chances of playing 145-150 games

Yeah, again, I like Kiermaier, but this is a player that has a couple hang ups. I don't blame teams for not rushing to offer up the world for him. Tampa needs to be reasonable here. Compared to what Cain got on the open market, consider in the negotiation side of things, Kiermaier is probably a 14M-ish AAV type of guy currently playing on the 9M AAV. The savings aren't incredible given the excitement he'd bring if he somehow played just 120 games. There's a middle ground to work here value-wise, otherwise, it just doesn't make sense.

Archer, they should take to the deadline regardless and drive that demand up. Feel the same about Colome
