You mean Boehly would have been better off? Funny how the guy who put in the least money was the one openly bitching about payroll, innit? He probably whines for the most tickets too.

Puig still empowers us to say "I dare you to try that shit" to the base runners who stop at second and gives us thrills throwing the overly ambitious fuckers out at third.... and maybe his bat is waking up after a bit of Miami home cooking? This division is far from being retaken but it's nice to see a guy back in the lineup who can be clutch. If Bellinger can take his head out of his "I'm the ROY fucking a model in LA" ass and concentrate on BB then things will get interesting real quick. I think we need to send a memo to Kemp, urging him to take young Cody behind the woodshed and teach him a thing or two about compartmentalizing the famous pussy and losing focus in the bright lights.

I notice you didn’t quote me, Elder Statesman. Is there anything else you forgot to tell me directly? No disrespect whatsoever, just while you’re gracing me with your wisdom, I’d like to make the most of it.

One thing that is different from the Cuban signings then compared to what is in the FO now. Those were all done by an Int'l scouting department that saw near top to bottom turnover shortly after the last of those major signings. FO seemed to see the mistakes that they made once these guys started showing up to camp and canned these guys shortly after. That group seems to be stellar at finding diamonds in the rough, but fuck did they whiff on the bigger names. Also in terms of Olivera, the guy was viewed as one of the best bats to ever come out of Cuba(not far behind Abreu). With the successes of Puig, Cespedes and Abreu at the time, the Dodgers seemingly having a huge hole at 3B/2B and plenty of funds to throw around, this made a lot of sense. The Dodgers were also notably the second highest bidder for Olivera as the Braves had the highest offer, but he chose LA.

I think you might have that wrong. What I read was that the Dodgers completely blew away the Braves Padres and Marlins to get him.

Dodgers claim Goeddel off waivers from M’s; designate Henry Owens
by Daniel Starkand | Dodger Blue — 18 minutes ago
    [IMG]
The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed reliever Erik Goeddel off waivers from the Seattle Mariners and designated Henry Owens for assignment in order to create room on the 40-man roster, which remains full.

Goeddel, who was designated for assignment by the Mariners earlier this week, is out of Minor League option. He may join the Dodgers in Washington for their weekend series with the Nationals, which would require a corresponding move on the 25-man roster.

The 29-year-old was a 24th round pick of the New York Mets in 2010 out of UCLA and has more than four years of Major League experience as a reliever. In 115 career appearances, Goeddel has yielded a 3.78 ERA, 3.90 FIP and 1.21 WHIP while striking out 118 compared to 43 walks in 112 innings.

After spending the first seven years of his professional career with the Mets, Goeddel signed a Minor League contract with the Texas Rangers this past offseason. He was released during Spring Training and went on to sign a Minor League deal with the Mariners.

Goeddel pitched in five Major League games for the Mariners this season, allowing four hits and one run in 7.1 innings (1.23 ERA), with nine strikeouts and five walks. He also pitched nine shutout innings across nine appearances for Triple-A Tacoma before being called up.

Owens was claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks last December. He’d yet to pitch for any of the Dodgers’ Minor League affiliates this season.

Bellinger has often called meeting Jeter, one of his childhood idols, a favorite memory of his. With the Dodgers visiting Marlins Park this week, it gave the two an opportunity to reunite. That prompted Jeter to recall first meeting with Bellinger, via Glenn Sattell of MLB.com:

“I remember him the little bkitch coming around the clubhouse when I was playing with his dad. Fucken entitled little ckunt. It’s great to see him failing so miserably after the short-lived success that he’s had. Overated punk. I remember watching hims overrated little ass (homo) back when he was in the Little League World Series, and thinking he was a talentless scrub even back then. Time flies.”

The two then reportedly had the following conversation...

    Cody: "Hey, you look familiar!"
Jeter: "Funny, your mom said the same thing last night."
    Cody: "Wow, dick."
Jeter: "She said that too... albeit in a much different context."
    Cody: "Wow, what an asshole."
Jeter: "Seriously kid, if you're going to keep setting up the pins..."

Goeddel? The guy who played for the Cards?
I don't mind that he is a dwarf but he must be in his 90' s.

Typical woman scorned. You let the broad have it though. Lol That was good. My 1st time thinking about her in a couple years thanks to that drive by..probably safe to say I'm running through her mind daily while she carries out her sentence on my ignore list. One word comes to mind. " Silly. " But the obsession with yours truly aside, you were on a roll with your common sense theme. Although, it's always sort of surreal when common sense has to be explained.

You and I don't see eye to eye on the Kemp acquisition this past offseason, though, I feel like they could've maybe gotten Hamels instead. But we're on the same page, big picture. Like you said, Colletti and his ex-closer/ex-Giant/ex-all star fascination, etc. = all trash. Lazy work. No presence in Latin america during McCourt's time either. So damn far behind other franchises, the new guys hit the INT market hard, cast the net wide and were basically forced to. I honestly don't know who was worse..elderly Al Davis or Frank McCourt? Probably McCourt and Al was obviously half dead running the RAIDERS at the end. McCourt leaves LAD with no quality middle of the rotation caliber arms to speak of coming through the system behind Kershaw. LAD just raped. " Sure, we'll take an old, tired Josh Beckett along with Adrian..we actually need the bum. " Lol Gotdamn Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang starting 30+ games. Smh

" Frank McCourt can't make payroll "..still the most embarrassing LAD headline of all time, IMO. That said, they now have a chance to clear the deck and hopefully they can get the last of the guys who grew up on McCourt's farm outta here because that's their biggest problem right now, IMO. Turns out they have a 35M a year leader of the rotation, leader of the club, that's a choke artist. And likewise for Jansen..big money, leadership position, big time choke artist. So I just believe the foundation of the payroll is faulty until they're out at this point. They're not leaders either. Kershaw's words after the WS loss still ring for me.." maybe one of these days I won't fail. " Get that weak shit outta here, son. Probably scared Ohtani away, talking like that. If this team keeps losing and the FO doesn't take advantage of this opportunity to sell at the deadline..and then spend big on one of these young phenoms this offseason after resetting the lux tax, they will have missed a crucial opening in the next phase of the rebuild. They really can't afford to miss this opportunity either. The Rams just went trade/free agent crazy with their NFL offseason moves and they're making noise, and the Lakers are about to do their own FA bidding for their improving team. The market is strengthening around LAD, so they need to answer this winter.

Damn...watching this shit on TV and seeing the LA placard last in the NLW behind those guys, it really hits home how far we have fallen...I mean you watch this every night and you know how much the team is so poor on so many levels...but to see us behing the Padres is sobering and head shaking.
Well, the real bottom has arrived.

Whoops, my fault, I eat crow.
I completely agree. What we’ve witnessed since they took over is the result of a violent, somewhat frantic desire to distance themselves from the McCourt era, which lead to clowns like Crawford and Beckett (will always love A-Gon), and also Ethier getting vastly overpaid. Understandable, and to be fair Kasten was clear from the outset that the eventual goal was to pare back the financial opulence. The huge issue that we’re paying for is that they jumped back on the see-saw on the opposite side, with equal vigor, to slash. That’s just poor planning, and I would be amazed if it results in some big payoff in the coming offseason or the one after that, because they’re not going to be interested in jumping on the see-saw again. They will want to establish a stable financial status quo of a big market team, sure, but one set up to be comfortably far away from the tax threshold for as long as it exists (between 130-150). I’m not sure how much money is set to come off the books this winter but I think we can expect more of the same speculative, high risk attempts to replicate the CT3 deal than big Free Agent splashes, maybe one here and there every few offseasons if lack of fan interest becomes too much of a threat to the bottom line.

The leadership issue is huge too. Kershaw is a headcase who crumbles emotionally when things don’t go his way, Jansen is soft, and Bellinger and Seager seem like boneheads who just lack the temperament for that. Utley is the closest thing we have, but he’s too old and bad now to really command that role. Dave is an idiot. I seriously would like to see Utley get the manager spot if he’s really willing to take charge and make it his clubhouse, but another more old school guy (who at least isn’t analytically retarded) will be a necessary improvement over Roberts.
