Is it possible for him to agree to opt out or would the players association fight that?

Only way he opts out is if the numbers he put up after that swing change he made during the season continues (1.050+ OPS, 22% K Rate and 60+HR pace) and either Harper, Machado or someone else get $40M a season before 2020. Even then..... yeah I have a hard time believing he opts out.

That is not even a realistic offer. I don't get why everyone wants Gonzo out, the guy has been good for this team for quite a while. Yes, father time caught up with him last year, and I don't see him as a regular this coming year, but he is a good club house presence and can mentor Bellinger. Id love to see MGT make him a coaching offer (they need to fill a lot of those slots). Realistically Kazmir's contract is what would be included. A package of Verdugo or Joc/Urias or Alvarez / Lux / Smith or Farmer / Kazmir /$15MM would be a solid offer. Kaz and the cash would off set Stanton's contract and bring the AAV down to $24/$25MM per year.

Much like the NBA an expiring contract in baseball is invariably as valuable as the asset who has that contract. Irregardless of how you feel about A-Gon his contract is up and therefore he has value. Always and forever I'll be a fan of his but if he can be a means to an end as a trade piece then so be it.

Man, the Marlins are sure taking their fucking time with this shit. Ohtani and Stanton in the same winter has the off season in an annoying standstill. If both situations are dealt with around the time the winter meetings are set to begin, which is what the word is, then the meetings may be back to being a crazy event. Still wish we had some good stories to read about instead of the same shit about Stanton and Ohtani every couple of days

My crystal ball says the Stanton situation will be resolved by next Friday and Ohtani will be resolved via a decision on a club by the 15th of December.:D

    Uh, MGT made that call.....
    http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-report-20171029-story.html

Gonzalez had hoped to make the postseason roster as a pinch hitter. When the Dodgers informed him he would not be active in the playoffs, Gonzalez requested permission to spend time in October with his family.

my magic 8-ball sees it differently
stanton will reject any trade unless it's the dodgers and, therefore, start the season with the marlins
the longer this goes on, the more the marlins leverage decreases
(wouldn't be surprised if behind closed doors we've already spoken to him about it)
marlins will eventually get desperate and make a bad/more reasonable deal with us (like buster olney predicted)

    as for ohtani...

Yeah, it sounds crazy but in the article I posted MGT said he was not making the postseason roster......which I take to mean any of them. So he asked if he could be with his fam......then he returned to be with the team for the WS and MGT told him to take a hike.

    WAYYYYY odd?!?!?!

    Dodgers reportedly Stanton’s first choice
by Hunter Thompson | Dodgers Nation — 27 minutes ago

Giancarlo Stanton has been the most talked about subject of the offseason thus far, and for good reason. It’s not every day that you have an opportunity to trade for the reigning National League MVP who is coming off of a 59-homer campaign. There are a handful of teams pursuing the 28-year old slugger, but some teams believe that his preferred destination is Los Angeles.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network had a series of tweets early Monday discussing the current situation:

    Jon Morosi ✔@jonmorosi
Sources: Giancarlo Stanton’s camp has given #Marlins a list
of teams to which he would accept trades. #Dodgers are among
them. To this point, Stanton has not formally rejected any trades.

Sources: Some teams pursuing Giancarlo Stanton believe
#Dodgers are his first choice, and that he will be reluctant to
approve other destinations until there is clarity with LA.

    Jon Morosi ✔@jonmorosi
Sources: #Dodgers and #Marlins have had contact regarding
Giancarlo Stanton trade concepts, but talks have failed to
progress so far; #STLCards and #SFGiants showing more
    sustained interest. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Stanton’s preferred destination being LA is important considering he has a full no trade clause, meaning he can veto any trade if he doesn’t like the destination. If Stanton were to hold out until it’s clear if the Dodgers are real contenders in a trade, it would give them the advantage of time. It would make it less of a race to see who can field the best offer, and give the Dodgers and Marlins an extended chance to find a deal that suits both sides.

Stanton is local to the area. He was born in Panorama City and then attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. It’s also well known that Stanton’s number one priority is to play for a winner, and the Dodgers certainly fit that much better than the Giants or Cardinals, who both missed the playoffs in 2017. As we all remember, the Dodgers came within one game of being champions in 2017, and adding a bat like Stanton could be the thing that pushes them over the line in the future. Adding Stanton to a lineup that already boasts Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, Chris Taylor, and Yasiel Puig could give the Dodgers the best offense in baseball. Also, Bellinger is no slouch when it comes to hitting home runs, coming off a 39-homer rookie season. He and Stanton would have the potential to combine for 100 home runs every season.

There is one big drawback to trading for Stanton, his contract. Prior to the 2014 season, Giancarlo signed a 13-year deal worth $325 million with an opt-out after the 2020 season. Stanton is set to make $25 million in 2018, followed by $26 million in 2019 and 2020 per spotrac.com. In total, Stanton is potentially owed a whopping $295 million over the next ten seasons. The Dodgers do have money coming off the books, with Andre Ethier’s $17.5 million option for 2018 declined and Adrian Gonzalez ($21.5 million) only under contract for one more season. However, with Clayton Kershaw likely to opt out after the 2018 season, they will need money for him as well.

There are still a lot of question marks surrounding the situation, and Jon Morosi also tweeted that no trade is imminent:

    Jon Morosi ✔@jonmorosi
Giancarlo Stanton trade is not imminent, sources say. While his
camp has given #Marlins a list of acceptable teams, indications
are the group may be negotiable. Thus, the free-agent logjam
    persists. @MLB @MLBNetwork

While it may not happen, the Dodgers seem to have a chance to land the slugger if they’re willing to open the checkbook. Do you want Stanton to come to the Dodgers? Let us know in the comments!
