  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

All this focus on speeding up the game, but they have no problem juicing the ball which lengthens games.

The good news, of course, is that Pedro Baez is completely incapable of working that fast, so his time in MLB is over.

No surprise, he gained 10/5 status last year.

Here is where the law of unintended consequences will come up.

What if the pitcher decides to step off the bag. You can’t count that as part of the time limit. There are a thousand reasons a pitcher and catcher may want to talk things over.

So this time limit will cause more situations where it’s safer to call time or step off the bag than rushing a pitch before you are ready.

This may actually lengthen the time a pitcher is ready to make a legitimate pitch.

they won't be allowed to step off
they have 20 seconds to make a pitch
plus there was talk (may have already been mandated) only 1 visit per inning
however, if there's a runner on 1st i think they can throw over as many times as they want
    but you're right...
they'll find ways to get around it
if for no other reason just to spite that idiot manfred

Good catch I didn't even think about that fact. The reason that this is significant is that IF we are even remotely in the Stanton convo, A-Gon would be the logical guy to try and dump on DBB.

I was going to write the same thing about the fact he may be serious about the two-way thing. I was buoyed by the fact that he was asking about the culture of both the city and the team so my paranoia was a bit allayed.

Marlins already have a first baseman that is way better. Justin Bour isn’t a slouch

The moves would be all about salary dumping but I hear you Bour was great when healthy. Just read up on him and there was an article recently that mentioned the Marlins got another 1st baseman from the Yanks so Bour could be affected.

I didn't realize Adrian had no trade rights, which is going to make it near impossible to dump his salary as part of a bigger trade. He would accept a trade anywhere if he thought he would get playing time there, problem is literally every team has a 1B better than Adrian.

Jake Arrieta is drawing interest from five teams
by Ashley Varela | NBC Sports — 5 hours ago

Five teams have reached out to Scott Boras about free agent right-hander Jake Arrieta, the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo reports. No concrete offers appear to be on the table just yet, but the Twins, Brewers, Blue Jays, Rockies and Rangers have reportedly made their interest known and it’s conceivable that the Cubs would throw their hats back in the ring as well. The lefty officially declined his $17.4 million qualifying offer from the Cubs several weeks ago.

Arrieta, 31, finished his fifth run with Chicago in 2017. After laboring through the first half of the year with a 4.00+ ERA, he settled into a groove during the club’s stretch run and ended the season with a 3.53 ERA, 2.9 BB/9 and 8.7 SO/9 through 168 1/3 innings. A right hamstring strain robbed him of two weeks in mid-September, but he was able to rebound in time to make a pair of strong playoff appearances.

While the veteran righty may no longer have the ability to reach the sub-2.00 ERA, 5.0+ fWAR totals he enjoyed in 2014-2015, his consistency and relative good health should keep him in fine condition to turn in another 30 starts next year. Only 31-year-old right-hander Yu Darvish is expected to command a bigger contract in free agency this winter, which puts Arrieta in an enviable position as teams vie for their next ace. No frontrunner has emerged for his services yet, but whoever does is expected to pony up a multiyear offer in excess of $100 million.

With the cloud around the back issues I think retirement is most likely.

Dre did alright for us. Wished he didn’t get those nagging injuries.

    Thanks for the memories.

Honestly, I don't see him retiring. The only option is DFA.
