    Both of those guys are probably a ways away. Rest assured, though, they will not suffer the same fate as Verdugo. Once they are ready they will be here.

    Neither of them are all that close to being ready. Ruiz's offense took a step back in 2018 as is normal when catching prospects concentrate on improving on the other side of the ball(which is why they take the longest to develop). He still has a lot to work on and develop with his power as well.

    Smith got worked over in AAA, but it has been said that he was worn down by the time he made it up. He also needs to find some middle ground from the big time power he displayed last year and the more contact oriented approach he had shown leading in to this past season.

    Calling up either right now could be tremendously detrimental to their development and a waste of potentially multiple control years. Smith is closest to being ready as his defense is already highly regarded, but he still is going to need at the least 200-300 PA's in AAA this year before he is ready.

    Nightengale had a Manny and Bryce report today. It was heavily filled with speculation. He said the Dodgers are Harper's first choice according to those close to him, however the Dodgers are out from what Nightengale can tell. He also says that the Yankees appear to be out on Machado, or at least close to being so. Those are his opinions based on what the clubs have said publicly. He also said that he is hearing both players are nowhere close to signing as teams are only offering around the $200M mark so far, not $300. Soooo with Nightengale's track record, expect both Machado and Harper to have contracts around $400M by tomorrow night.

    I really hope this is just media hype. If Harper's first choice is the Dodgers and MGT does nothing that will be the second "big bat" that they have passed on.... remember Stanton wanted to go to the Dodgers last year as well.

    You don't need two catchers in the pipeline coming at the same time.
    Burn Will Smith for his defense.
    If it stunts his growth well he can go hang out with Brock.
    Next year its either Realmuto or you go with big O no D in Grandmal or big D and no O in Will Smith.
    I would rather have a guy who cant hit than a guy who cant catch the ball at catcher.
    And if that means that Will Smith never becomes as great a hitter as AJ Ellis then so be it.
    We have another lottery ticket in Ruiz.
    Hopefully he isnt Grandal 2.

    Yep. In all seriousness, given the nature and physical demands of the catcher position, my preferred philosophy would be to line them up 2 x 2 [no homo]
    They need another one to go with young Cartaya, IMO. Bring them along behind Ruiz/Smith
