The Giants are said to have had a sit down meeting with Bryce Harper recently. The timing of all these new teams jumping in on Harper is interesting as it seemingly coincides with the response from the MLBPA. This could be a sign that GM’s and Owners think the universal DH will be in play likely here soon. The Mets for instance are said to have been feeling this all offseason and it was a big reason why they moved quickly on Robinson Cano.

If Arenado signs an extension with the Rockies and a DH comes into play, the excuses for the Dodgers being out on Harper and Machado are disappearing.

Even as presently constructed the DH would benefit the Dodgers, Muncy could fill that role most of the time, Bellinger goes back to 1B, Pollock and Verdugo play Center and Right respectively, that allows Joc to split time in Left with whoever is not playing 2B. Freese would probably also get some time at 1B/DH.

Marlins would preferably like to get a Realmuto deal done by Saturday, but it sounds like they still don’t have a deal that they really like. New report has them telling the Phillies that Sixto Sanchez is “a must” in trade talks. Sanchez is one of the top prospects in baseball and is a projected frontline starter. If anyone meets these demands, they’re nuts... and it is not going to be the Dodgers.

Nah, that’s why I don’t think it happens even if it is agreed upon this year. The MLBPA is coming in strong in a couple of categories that I think they’re just hoping to meet somewhere down the road on with the owners.

I think all teams should get a trophy for participating.

I’m guessing that there is a work stoppage, but it sounds like there is at least some good traction early with these talks in recent weeks. We’ll see though...

It’s happening, but what is the endgame? Short of finding evidence of collusion, the players don’t really have leverage. Stop playing for a whole year? That’s throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It could kill the sport. How do you force teams to pay when the metrics are saying don’t do it. It just will get ugly.

I hope to God TWC had a strike provision in their deal so GuGG's doesn't get paid in the event of a work stoppage and McCourt sues them for his parking revenue anyway.

    They'd deserve the drama! :D :D :D

On that note, here's a bit of trivia.

Who was the ONLY player to be paid during the strike of '94?

Daryl Strawberry had it in his contract that the Dodgers had to pay him in the event of a strike. ;)

    • Randy Miller from the Yankees Beat is reporting that Harper is more willing to take a 2-3 year deal and his preference is to play for the Giants or Dodgers.
    • PECOTA ratings are out and has the Dodgers winning the most games in the NL this year with 95. The rest of the division is Rockies at 85, D'Backs 81, Padres 75 and Giants 72

If they added Keuchel on a long term deal, that would be generally hilarious since he is trending poorly.

It sure doesn’t feel like the #Nats offer of beyond 10 years/$300M to Bryce Harper is still on the table. Or he has no interest in returning. It feels more like Boras is trying to manipulate the demand by pulling more clubs in at a lower level and trying to build it back up again
