• At least 8 teams are now reportedly "in" on Bryce Harper

• The Giants and Yankees are in talks of a potential swap of Cueto for Jacoby Ellsbury.... I know he is gone for the year, but holy crap would I be all over that if I were the Yankees.

• Manny Machado does not seem to have all that many suitors and is apparently waiting for the Yankees to jump back into the fold. He also is rumored to have told the Padres that he is done with the West Coast.

• The Lakers and Pelicans have supposedly had substantial talks of a deal that would send Anthony Davis to the Lakers.... Seriously, this is the only real exciting thing happening.

 

I'm not heeding every "report" due to all the falsehoods floating around so yeah I guess I haven't been that in tune with this stuff.

 

This off season there have been so many reports that haven't been accurate so I'll just hold out hope the price isn't Ruiz.

 

I am with you on that. I get mad about the offseason, then realize that like 1/2 of the dudes have signed and remind myself to chill until more signings get done.... THEN I'll get mad at the FO.

 

The Rockies and Nolan Arenado are supposedly making progress towards a long term extension. I have said this before, the Rockies are climbing the ladder into becoming a stronger all-around organization that could eventually start seeing regular annual payrolls in the 130-150M range. So many people moving to the area AND the incomes of these people are quite high as Tech, Medical and Financial jobs are booming along with the always present Oil and Gas Industry(plus I have been given some inside information that the Tech stuff is going to skyrocket). The land around Coors is getting built up like crazy, making the stadium a go to spot on summer nights and the club is up for a new TV contract in 2020. While they won't get anything like the Dodger got, they could realistically see an increase to about $100M a year due to the Rockies TV reach hitting New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana and Kansas markets as well. Should be an interesting future for the club.

I think a few things here are true. That LAD values framing/defense at the position and both Smith and Ruiz are pretty well regarded in those areas, Smith a little better all around and Ruiz boasting a very accurate arm. Whereas, on the other hand, Realmuto is meh defensively and quite atrocious in the framing category.

If I saw a bunch of win now moves being made, maybe I could see it with Realmuto. Maybe. But both Barnes and Russ Martin are still impressing defensively, and the FO is still playing the long game with Willie Smith not too far off at all

 

Nobodies in on bryce, that's why it is february and he is still a fa. Not because he is in so much demand that the offer started at 150 and keep growing higher and higher with teams clamoring for his services. Its cause he isnt griffey and he thinks he is and boras is cocky enough. 300 isnt on the table anymore not even from the nats, he blew that

 

390k to 560k in the last 6 years isn’t bad either.

 

There's definitely something to this. IMO, It feels like Boras and Harper are scrambling to try to save face right now, since it doesn't appear he's going to land anything close to what he wanted. I'm sure he has a couple lucrative offers, but nothing close to what he was demanding at the start of FA.

I fully expect to see him sign a deal returning to the Nats for much lower than the 300M mark, and Boras/Harper will feed us the "we had several 300+M offers, but in the end Bryce really wanted to return back to Washington and help delivery the city a championship." quotes.
