It’s unbelievable to me that there are legitimate media members who I respect who take issue with the “Machado doesn’t hustle” narrative.

    HE SAID IT HIMSELF LMAO

HE WOULDNT HUSTLE IN THE WORLD SERIES

I would’ve taken the guy back but it’s like a defense attorney defending someone who already confessed to the murder

Some media members are more respectable than others.
Problem is, those respected reporters have flaws of their own.
Yes, they typically know more about the game, have better sources, and site data and tangible evidence if they venture into analysis/commentary.
BUT these same guys are so focused on being counter-cultural that they must take the opposite-to-mainstream opinion on everything to maintain their superiority.
So in the case of Machado, the 'respected' guys are more likely to scoff at the Johnny Hustle stuff because "hustle" is associated with conventional wisdom. Even if it was clearly a real thing.

I mean, yes. It's all so inconsequential that even the respected guys are irrelevant, really.
    All relative.

Tampering or not, players should refrain from making any such comments. One of his teammates is slated for that spot, or at least feels he has a good chance to get it with hard work, and here's Harper, less than a week in, essentially declaring that the team needs an upgrade there. Yeah I know, it's Trout, who would upgrade the position on EVERY team, but why go and put that out there publicly? Just not a good way to build goodwill with his new teammates, in my opinion.

Not terribly bright. Sounds like he wants to be LeBron's next interview.

Agree 100%. I wanted Harper as much as anyone on here, but it wasn't because he's smart.

    this
and right on the heels of the ill-fated “win a title for dc” remark
    not a smart man
and the more time goes by, quite possibly the more grateful we are that we didn’t sign him

Uh oh. Looks like MLB could fine Harper for tampering.

Somebody get me some Kleenex. When Kershaw and Turner were meeting with Ohtani and trying to convince him to join LAD, were they not undermining guys that are working hard and already on the team? Man, this is professional sports. If you're not trying to get better, you lose. Get good. Guys that can't handle competition, get lost. That's the name of the game.

Ohtani wasn't under an MLB contract with a team. He was essentially a free agent. Trout is still under contract.

Not that I agree with the rule, but that is what it says.

the whole tampering thing is so lame anyway
like these guys don't have contact through social media/cell phones/go out to dinner w each other
anything they are saying in the media is because they are retarts

Oh I don't care about the tampering part of it. I'm just saying that Kershaw and Turner were out there actively trying to get Ohtani to join the team, so somebody on the team was going to be out of a job. How did they feel about that? Who cares

But that's life. Professional athletes..guys playing a kids' game for a king's ransom having to deal with real life problems..
