yeah it’s a shitty roster but also, Kapler makes a lot of shitty decisions and I’ve yet to see anything that makes me think he’s a good manager

I know I’m in not in the majority here and he makes BAFFLING decisions but the FO choosing Dave over Kapler/Madden was a very very good thing IMO

dave is dave and if you are giving me only those three as a choice i guess he's the lesser of the evils
kapler appears to be unhinged but he has had the phillies and the giants...not exactly juggernauts of talent
maddon did win one and he's got the angels and morono going against him
sure he wanted to put a sword in artes throat after looking the gift of joc and ross in the mouth

the front office wanted someone they could control
they knew roberts, unlike kapler and madden, would be happy just to have the job and wouldn’t challenge whatever they suggested
kapler is an asshat and we definitely dodged a bullet there
madden would have been a solid choice, but again probably less likely to cater to the fo's requests (read: mandates)

People act like being controlled by the FO is a bad thing. I get it, but....
The last Dodger game I saw was Game 5 of the NLDS....
...and I remember wishing Dave actually was controlled by the FO because they never would have made the dipshit decisions he did.

I don't know if it was yesterday or the day before, but during the game Joe and Orel mentioned that one GM was quoted as saying "it doesn't feel right to trade players in a pandemic." Who knows what our FO's attitude is, but it's another layer of concern especially with Clevinger not taking Covid precautions seriously. I have little doubt that Friedman has a price where he would pull the trigger no matter what, but not sure if it's lower than normal with things working for the club as is. Just speculating, I would think any deal starts with Dustin May... or maybe, Josiah Gray.

A note about the service time: Clevinger has 2 more years of team control in 2021 and 2022, but if he is optioned for a minimum of 20 days he could be under team control for 2023 as well. The wrinkle is that he was optioned on August 14, and the trade deadline is August 31, so any team trading for him would have to keep him down for a few days for the 2023 control to kick in, and I don't know if that's how you would want to start off a relationship with your new ace. I also imagine if he is held down for 20 days, the MLBPA would fight for him to get that year back, so I wouldn't expect that year to be guaranteed.

so come to find out tatis jr’s grand slam last night came on a 3-0 pitch with his team up 7 runs in the 8th inning
if there was any doubt about his self-serving/me-first douchieness, this should pretty much remove any doubt
the only good thing is the next pitch thrown was behind mehchado

I don't really mind it, except that the Padres had apparently given him the "take" sign. If he missed it that's not good, if he ignored it that's really bad. Being up by 7 isn't really a gimme with their bullpen, so I don't take that into consideration much.

I don't know how this ends for the Padres, but if the clubhouse culture is led by Machado and Tatis feeding off of each other, things may get... "interesting". The Tatis grandslam was another illustration of how immensely talented he is, but how questionable his decision making is. He hit it on a pitch low and away in the strikezone, not necessarily the kind of pitch you look for with a 3-0 green light.

Swing away. If you want to stop competing, forfeit the game. Isn't "no crying in baseball" another unwritten rule? Violated constantly by the little bitches who seem to care so much about unwritten rules.

lol yes what every fan wants to see. A upcoming star take a meaty 3-0 fastball down the middle.

so stupid. Never heard of this unwritten rule btw. Ironically...Working the count taking a walk while up big is a rule I heard of.

Anybody that likes unwritten rules, go root for the cardinals where they play the game the right way.

Stealing up big I get. Swinging at 3-0 at a meatball I don’t. Batters are taught not to give away at bats

taking 3-0 isn’t giving away an at bat
especially when the 3rd base coach gives you the take sign and you ignore it
play the game hard, but don’t pile on
if he hits a bomb with a 3-1 count, no one would have had a problem with it
dude is a self-serving ckunt and it’s almost perfect machado is his teammate
think mookie swings at that pitch?

    • Tatis Jr. says he was sorry for smacking the home run ... saying next time he'll likely take the pitch instead of crushing it and piling on runs. "Those experiences, you got to learn from it," Tatis Jr. said. "Probably next time, I take a pitch now that I learned from it.”
    lol @ probably
    great team player

Nothing wrong with being cocky. Harnessed, warranted cockiness leads to greatness. If you’re cocky and cant play...we’ll then you’re just an idiot

Also- Walker is a hard worker in the gym too. He’s the guy everyone trips out on for squatting so much weight for his size.
